CALMING CLOTHING for

Dogs Who

Fear Storms

Stormwear for dogs

With hurricane season in progress, dog owners may be seeking ways to soothe the anxiety of their pets during stormy weather. Some experts recommend "canine thunderwear" such as ear-muffs,swaddling blankets, and head halters. A leotard called a "sheepsuit" may calm anxiety-prone dogs when thunderous sounds disturb them. The cause for this stress remains unclear and can become more evident as your pet turns 4 or 5 years old.

Other non-medicating treatments include desensitizing your pet by playing a CD replicating the sound of storms, and determining a safe place for your pet when a storm strikes - as removed from the noise as possible.  Training your canine to head there at the sound of thunder may create a more comfortable haven for a fearful pet.

Snub-Nosed Breeds Advisory
Changing Climates

ADVISORY

for Snub-Nosed Breeds

Summertime brings elevated heat levels that can present problems for snub-nosed dogs and cats. These animals are very susceptible to high heat and humidity. Airlines may place restrictions on travel for snub-nosed pets when temperatures rise above

75 degrees, as their anatomies make it difficult for them to breathe in these warmer conditions. Please ask us for more information about travel options during the summer months for your snub-nosed pet.

CHANGING CLIMATES?

Changing Climates

If your pet is relocating from a colder to a warmer climate, please keep in mind these ways to help your pet acclimate to its new environment. Don't allow vigorous exercise for several days after traveling to a warmer climate. Limit sun exposure during the hottest times of day. Take extra care with puppies and kittens to provide plenty of fresh water and shade. Allow your pet to acclimate gradually. Heat illness is common when animals haven't had sufficient time to adjust to higher temperatures.
