LED Fixtures Light Up Parking Lot | | |
LED'S verses Metal Halides
When RMS Machine decided to add a 2 story building onto their existing facility they contacted Premier Lighting for their interior lighting needs. As that project was going on the discussion came up of what they were going to do with their outdoor lighting. Their original plan was to go with the general contractors recommendation of metal halide wallpack lights around the dock area of the building and metal halide flood lights on the top of the building (35 ft in the air) with the goal of lighting up the parking lot below. After running some layouts and calculations it was determined that LED lighting was a much better way to go.
The original recommendation was for 8, 400 watt metal halide flood lights and 4, 175 watt metal halide wallpacks. After running the layouts it was determined that they could stick with the planned location of each light, but instead of 8, 400 watt fixtures and 4, 175 watt fixtures they were able go with 8, 78 watt LED fixtures 4, 52 watt LED fixtures from RAB Lighting. By going with the LED fixtures they are saving over $1,200/year in energy costs while getting better light levels. In addition the LED light fixtures last over 50,000 hours compared to only 15,000 hours on the metal halide fixture which saves a significant amount of maintenance costs.
