Saint Arnold Army Newsletter

Dear Saint Arnold's Army:

Having crossed the 40,000 bbl production mark last year (we now make more beer in a year than the U.S. part of ABInBev makes in 3 hours!! We're huge!!), we have decided to spend our billions of dollars by sponsoring the Super Bowl.

First, there will be our ad. It's subliminal so you may not notice it (it lasts 1/100th of a second).

If you are at the game, make sure to look up from your seats at Lucas Oil Stadium and spot the Saint Arnold blimp.

And if you are watching from home, you will notice the Saint Arnold logo tastefully located in the upper right corner of your TV screen throughout the game. (Please come by the brewery this week and pick up your free Saint Arnold logo static cling to place in the upper right corner of your TV screen.)

And make sure your fridge is stocked with Amber Ale, Elissa, Lawnmower, Weedwacker and Santo! You may be able to find both Winter Stout and Spring Bock around town this week. And don't forget the pedestrianly named but complexly flavored Brown Ale.

It's Spring! Time for Spring Bock

Everybody knows that spring starts in late January in Texas (OK, it comes in April in the Panhandle, but that is several time zones away from Houston). This means that our rich, sweet malty lager Spring Bock is coming out. There is still a little Winter Stout on the shelves around town, but our distributor is probably running out today.

Bitter Belgian to be Released on Thursday, February 9

The last release currently planned in our Moveable Yeast series is the Bitter Belgian - Elissa IPA fermented with a Belgian yeast strain as opposed to our house Saint Arnold ale yeast. The result is a much fruitier beer with a variety of interesting notes that work quite well with all the Cascade hops used to brew Elissa.

Bitter Belgian will be available on draft only. Although it is being released on February 9, it will only be sporadically available on that date. Many pubs and restaurants will be putting it on over following couple of weeks. In addition, some accounts will wait to tap their kegs until they have another special event planned.

There is a very limited amount of this beer available. While most of it will be sold in the greater Houston area, some is being shipped to our other Texas markets as well as Louisiana.

When possible, we really recommend enjoying Bitter Belgian next to an Elissa IPA so you can see just how large an effect yeast can have on the flavor of beer. We will have Bitter Belgian on our weekday tours starting February 9 but it will not be available on our Saturday tours.

Oh Beautiful Beer celebrates remarkable graphic design work from the world of beer. Check out their recent feature of Santo and artist Carlos Hernandez.

Valentine's Day Beer & Cheese Pairing at Saint Arnold

Looking for something novel and fun to do on Valentine's Day? We have just the event! Pairing our beers with Texas made cheeses brought together by the Houston Dairy Maids. An evening perfect for couples and those without dates.

We will have a few of the cheesemakers on hand to discuss the cheeses and we'll be talking about the beers. We'll have to see if we can make a pairing with Bitter Belgian. There will also be a special beer & cheese dessert prepared by Top Chef contestant Rebecca Masson. Here are the details on the evening:

We are adding two new positions

We will be adding two new entry level people to our Brew Crew: one Brewer and one Production Maintenance Team member. What we are looking for in candidates for each of these positions is quite different. This being the case, if you are applying, please apply only for the position for which you are best qualified. Working at Saint Arnold is fun and rewarding, but brewing beer is a craft requiring focus, detail and highly engaged individuals. We work 24 hours a day so shift work is involved. When all goes well, it is fun. But sometimes the brewery tests you which can be stressful.

If interested, please email [email protected] your resume and cover letter. In the subject line, please indicate which position you are applying for.

Thanks again for your support. 2012 is off to a great start! We hope your team wins the Super Bowl, and if you aren't rooting for any team, then enjoy the ads, especially our subliminal one.

Cheers!
