Here's another way to get that warm and fuzzy feeling while having a beer. We're talking about how good it feels when you do something as nice as donating school supplies for kids that need them. On Wednesday, August 3, we are teaming up with our State Representative Jessica Farrar to host a Back to School drive for needy families at the brewery. Cost of admission is a new or gently used children's backpack and some school supplies. Then hang out and enjoy some tasty refreshing beverages. Consider them the fruits of your labor.
Here are the details: Date: Wednesday, August 3 Taps open from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (remember you can bring food to snack on) Admission: Bring one new or gently used children's backpack AND at least one of the following items: 8 pack of markers 24 pack of crayons Large pack of pencils Large package of spiral notebooks

Visiting our Hop Farmer in Hallertau
In June, we went over to visit the hop farmer and his family who are growing our Hallertau Hersbrucker hops that we use so much of in our Lawnmower , Weedwacker , Summer Pils (along with Saaz) and Oktoberfest . We chose Josef Zeitler's hops last year while doing hop selecting at the offices of the co-op that we purchase our Bavarian hops through. We use the co-op as opposed to a broker as this way much more of the purchase price goes to the farmer.
Zeitler's hop field is in a valley near Ossenzhausen protected by hills and forest from high winds and storms. It is a bucolic setting and the hops, when we visited them, were up the trellises and about to start flowering. The majority of the harvest from this field will come to Saint Arnold's.
After visiting the field, we were treated to a traditional Bavarian lunch of pork, bread dumpling and potato salad. And yes, beer. It was a great trip! Having such a personal connection with our suppliers really extends our feeling of community.

Saint Arnold beer sales were up 50% for the first half of 2011, so thank you! The final batch of Summer Pils is being bottled this Friday, so enjoy it while you can. In an "oops!" moment, we discovered this week that we were short quite a few Summer Pils neck labels and can't get more in time for Friday's run. After inquiring on Facebook whether we should dump the beer or bottle it sans neck labels, we are going with the overwhelming response which was, "Please put it in the trunk of my car." Since that isn't legal, we'll just bottle it. Please excuse the missing neck labels.
Thanks for all your support!
Cheers!
