(Part 2) Igniting the Body's Healing Process Treating
Treating Common Illnesses Many illnesses the body experiences are created from tension in the muscles of the spine and organs. Stress has been proven to be a contributing factor in heart attacks, high blood pressure and even the common cold.

Alternative Therapy can treat these illnesses and many others by gentle manipulation that creates balance in the body between its different structures: joints, muscles, organs, autonomic nervous system, etc.
In the case of a cold the body is fighting germs (bacteria/viruses) and the "rebalancing" that occurs with Alternative Therapy allows the body's own immune system to regain strength and take over healing. When the body is not in balance, the immune system (as well as other functions of the body) is compromised and not working at full strength. Once equilibrium is established, the body will have a greater response to medications, such as antibiotics, prescribed by your physician.
In the case of heart issues, the heart muscle is deprived of normal blood flow. Reestablishing equilibrium (through the osteopathic techniques of Alternative Therapy) indirectly opens these restricted blood vessels thereby improving the flow of blood to reach the heart.
With digestive problems, the autonomic nervous system can be "reset" to restore normal functions and achieve healing.
Traditional vs. Alternative The true difference in Alternative Therapy vs. traditional physical therapy is a whole body approach to wellness. Traditional physical therapy concentrates on mobility of a particular afflicted body part. Alternative Therapy addresses tensions located in various areas of the body, promoting relaxation and release; allowing the body to become an active participant in the healing process.
Surgery Avoided Patients at Alternative Therapy have experienced relief from such varied illnesses as irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension, digestive problems and sleep disorders. One amazing recovery occurred with a toddler who was suffering with repeated ear infections. His mother brought him to Alternative Therapy to help him manage the pain until his scheduled ear tube surgery which was in 5 days. After one treatment, the child had reduced pain. The second treatment succeeded in eliminating the pain completely. The third and final visit was the morning of the surgery; mom's intentions were to help keep him calm and pain free to prepare him for the procedure. When the ear, nose and throat doctor examined the boy's ear before the scheduled procedure to implant ear tubes, he was amazed to find complete recovery of the ear canal. No infection, no pain. The surgery was cancelled and the child's ear infections were eradicated.
