The Element of Pain Free Living
Recognition, Part 1
The treatment at Alternative Therapy is based upon relaxation.  Relaxation can be perceived by different people, in different ways; anything not related to work, anything that does not cause stress and participation in things that make us happy.  To me, relaxation has a deeper meaning.  It is like an onion, it has multiple layers.  We can get relaxation superficially.  For example:  if you are a racing a car at 150 mph and then you stop and get out, you are instantly relaxed, compared to your condition when you were driving.  A superficial layer of relaxation.
Due to the many challenges in our lives we become stressed without realizing it and continue to hold this tension in our bodies.  The problems that are surrounding us are so intense that we stop paying attention when the body whispers to us. When it starts yelling at us, through pain and illnesses, we start reacting; "Whoa!  What's going on?  Why is this happening?"  Then, we try to find and pinpoint external causes of this pain, responding; "Oh, I have fallen.  I've lifted something heavy. I slept wrong"
What we don't realize is the cause of the pain and dysfunction in our body is caused by the tension that has developed over time due to all of these stressors.
So, the question is:  "How do we get to the  deepest layer of relaxation?"  There are three steps:  first is recognizing the need to relax, second is the willingness to commit to change and thirdly; we must work on controlling our thoughts and focusing on one activity.
We have to acknowledge that we live an intense and stressful life.  Realizing this is the primary factor in eliminating the stress and tensions and reaching any layer (stage) of relaxation.

Acupuncture & Herbs
How Does Acupuncture Work?
Over 3,000 years ago the Chinese discovered that the secret to health and repairing injuries was found in the blood.  Stimulating acupuncture points along the body affects blood flow into and out of the tissues.
How does this Help?
The blood circulating through your body contains natural pain killing substances called endorphins.  Acupuncture increases the levels of these pain relieving substances while it improves blood flow.  The increase in blood flow is healing and is effected by which particular points are stimulated.
But there's more in the blood!
  • Hormones circulate in the blood, providing systemic balance
  • Oxygen, which we can't live without
  • The nutrients our digestion pulls out of food circulate and are distributed through the blood
  • Waste materials are carried away by the circulatory system
Infertility in women has been associated with decreased blood flow in the uterine artery, acupuncture has been shown to increase that flow.  It has been shown that acupuncture increases the levels of nitrous oxide in treated regions,  thereby increasing local circulation.  Numerous other modern studies demonstrate what Oriental medicine has known all along, acupuncture increases blood flow and this facilitates the body's natural healing.  Experience the healing benefits of acupuncture and herbal medicine with Ellen Teeter, DOM at Alternative Therapy.  Call for an appointment:  941-727-1500.
