Your chamber of commerce is developing its strategic plan for serving businesses in 2012 and beyond, and needs your input. Transportation Roundtable at Chamber Lunch Exchange
Transportation projects in Sumter County, including the planned widening of I-75, will be the topic of the May 11 Chamber Lunch Exchange. Beata Stys-Palasz, Florida DOT Project Manager for the widening project, has been invited to discuss plans to improve safety and capacity on I-75 from the Hernando/Sumter county line to south of Florida's Turnpike. T.J. Fish, Executive Director of the Lake/Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization, will also discuss the Transportation 2035 long-range transportation plan.

The Lunch Exchange will be held at 11:30am at the Wildwood Country Resort, 5604 Heritage Blvd. in Wildwood. The cost to attend is $10.00 for members and $15.00 for non-members. RSVP's are required and can be made by calling the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce at 352-793-2120 or e-mailing sumter-coc@sumterchamber.org.

Two of the college's summer terms start May 9. The seven-week Term A continues through June 23, while the 14-week Term A Extended ends August 11.  These terms offer the perfect opportunities for college and university students to pick up some extra credits or complete that required course over the summer.  Read More Here>>

 

6th Annual Tracy's Point Youth Fishing Tournament

May 21 - Entry fee is $30 per person. There will be two age divisions; 6 thru 12 and 13 thru 17. Winners are awarded for top 3 places in each age group based on the most weight out of 10 pan fish. First place in each division gets $300; $150 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd, with one award of $100 for the largest trash fish including Gar fish, Mudfish, Catfish and Tilapia. Registration forms are available at the Tracy's Point Bait and Tackle Shop. This is a not-for-profit event. Sponsors are needed. Contact Steve Lind at 352-793-8060 for information.

WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA (WCF) is offering the Summer Job Connection program, an employment program that will provide summer work experience in local jobs for a limited number of young adults ages 16-21.

Yes, WCF will pay the wages of the young adults in the program, who will work 35 hours a week at $8.25 per hour for six to 12 weeks.  Read More Here>>

 

The Florida National Cemetery Joint Veterans Committee (JVC) will sponsor the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Florida National Cemetery on Monday, May 31, 2011 at 11am. Brigadier General James S. Hartsell, Deputy Commanding General will be the Guest speaker.  For further information, please contact the cemetery office - Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm at 352-793-7740. 

 

Deaf and Hearing Services of Lake & Sumter Counties will have their 6th Annual Plant Sale fundraiser on Saturday, May 14, from 8am to 1pm. It will be located at 220 South 9th Street, Leesburg.
