A Message From Our President
I want to take this opportunity to personally thank you and your family for allowing GPW this season to coach your son's and daughter's. There are many leagues and activities in Gilbert and around the Valley to choose from, thank you for selecting Gilbert Pop Warner. I have been a volunteer for GPW for 7 years and I have often been told that we run a great program, this is due to the countless hours that our volunteers put in to make GPW successful.
To the families that are new to GPW, you made a great choice and I hope you have a fun and successful year. To the families that have been with GPW and are returning, thank you for coming back and being part of our Football Family for another season. We look forward to another successful year at GPW. The 2009 football season was our most successful season since we were established in 1998.
- GPW sent three football teams to the State Playoffs in 2009. The Bruisers (JR. Midget) and Predators (Pee-Wee) were runner up and the Avengers won the Midget State Title.
- We had three of our cheer squads qualify for Nationals and travel to California for the WESCON Tournament in 2009
- GPW is the largest Pop Warner Association in the State of Arizona and fifth largest in the United States with over 700 kids that register every year.
We have a lot to cover in July's Newsletter. We have three Fundraisers this month; I hope to see you all at them this month. I wish you all the best of luck and success this 2010 football season.
Thank you and Best Regards,
Marc Washburn

Top 7 Tips To Prepare For Football Season
By Bob Davis
1. Proper Rest - Our young athletes need at least 8-9 hours sleep each night, not just on weekends, if they want their bodies to repair themselves!
2. Hydrate - Our young athletes need at least 4 of the 16 oz bottles of water each day in addition to what they drink at practice and games.
3. Protein in every Meal - Our young athletes need 80% of their body weight in grams of protein each day. A 100 pound athlete needs 80 grams of protein throughout the day, 20 grams each meal 4 times a day.
4. Shoes Laced Properly - Our young athletes need to lace their sports shoes from the toe up, tightly. I have seen athletes that do not tighten their shoes properly and have broken bones in their feet because of improper support!
5. Water vs. Sports Drinks - Our young athletes need to drink water all day, to prepare for sport, but need the sugar and electrolytes from the sports drink during the activity to keep energy levels up. During the activity is not the time to be concerned about reducing sugar levels.
6. When to Stretch - Our young athletes must stretch every day, and at the end of the activity not at the beginning. Stretching primarily is to help increase the range of motion in a joint. With that in mind, it should be done when the muscle is the most warm, and that is at the end of the activity.
7. Running Distance or Intervals - For building stamina for football, interval sprints are better than running just for distance. Head to the track and jog for 15-30 seconds and sprint for 4-6 seconds. That will help duplicate what you are doing on the field. Keep this up for 15-20 minutes as you get in better shape.

Update From Our Business Manager Director
Parents:
Welcome to Gilbert Pop Warner. I have listed a few important items below as reminders to assist with making the 2010 GPW Football and Cheer season a success. If you registered your child on line or did not have all the required paperwork at registration, please make sure that you bring:
1.) A copy of your current electric or water bill 2.) A copy of your child's birth certificate
3.) A copy of his or hers 2009-2010 full report card (put in a safe place once received on the last
day of school or by mail) to the first day of
practice scheduled for Monday, August 2nd.
If your child did not get a physical from the physician at registration and is getting one from your family physician, please make sure that it is completed prior to the first day of practice, Monday, August 2nd.
You will also need to have your family physician use the Pop Warner 2010 Physical Form when inputting your child's information. This form can be found on GPW's website at:

Receive Cash For Your Gold at Registration

Change your unwanted gold into CASH instantly! Bring your broken, out of style, or scrap gold and leave with CASH. Best part about it is your gold doesn't leave your hands until you have cash in your pocket!
Gilbert Pop Warner will be receiving 15% of what is purchased to help offset league costs and keep registration fees down. Go through those jewelry boxes and bring your unwanted gold to registration. Friends and family are welcome too. Your "junk" may even cover the cost of your enrollment fees! Can't make it to registration? Call to set an appointment and GPW will still receive their percentage.

Testimonial -
"I went into registration with a small handful of gold to turn into for the cash for gold program that Gilbert Pop Warner had.I was thinking that I might get $80 to $100 for the amount I had to turn in.Much to my surprise, I gave them my handful of gold, and I was given $625 right then and there. And the best part is, it is cash in hand, no checks with this company. That amount would pay for my son's football sign up fee, my daughter's cheer sign up fee and still leave me with $175.00 for myself. You have to bring your gold to pay for your registration and there could be extra cash in it for you too."
