Commercial Property Showcase
| Friday, November 4 11:00am - 1:00pm Bank of America Building What: A Commercial Day Event meant to showcase available commercial properties downtown that are for sale or for lease Who: Anyone who wants to attend; specifically targeted to brokers, downtown property owners, business owners, etc. This event will be held on the fifth floor of the Bank of America building. Food will be provided by Commonwealth Commercial Properties. Brokers and Property Owners should bring property marketing flyers and keys to their downtown properties in case they wish to present them at the event and take anyone on a tour of the specific sites at the conclusion of the meeting. Cucalorus Film Festival
| November 10 - 13
Cucalorus was founded in 1994 by a filmmaking collective called TwinkleDoon. At the inaugural event, crowds wrapped around the block to see 16 local films screening at a restaurant by the Cape Fear River. These days Cucalorus Film Festival takes place every November in historic Wilmington, NC screening over 100 independent and international films in venues like the majestic and recently restored Thalian Hall as well as City Stage Theater and Jengo's Playhouse. In 2009 MovieMaker Magazine recognized it as one of the "25 Coolest Film Festivals" and by the Brooks Institute as one of the "Top Ten Film Festivals." Click here for more information. |

Courtyard Marriott Coming Soon
|  A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Courtyard Marriott Hotel was held Thursday, October 20. Mayor Saffo and representatives from WDI, the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County joined the public for this celebration. The six-story, 124-room hotel should be completed within 14 months. The development site is located at Second and Grace streets.
WDI provided site selection assistance with this project, which is anticipated to generate in excess of $1 million in local and state tax revenues.

Breathe Deep Wilmington 5K Walk and Fun Run

Wilmington residents will come together to raise awareness and critical funds to combat lung cancer, the nation's number one cancer killer. Event check-in and event day registration begins at 9:00am, with the 5k walk and fun run beginning at 10:00am. The course is friendly to strollers and pets. The event promises a day of enjoyment for participants and spectators alike, featuring free giveaways, silent auction, food, drink, entertainment, children's activities, and prizes for the top fundraising teams and individuals. Proceeds from Breathe Deep Wilmington will support lung cancer research via the LUNGevity Foundation, the nation's fastest growing charity and largest private funder of the most promising lung cancer research. Two years ago, Wilmington's film industry was on life support. Today, the industry is enjoying its best year in more than a decade. More than $100 million will be spent this year on productions in Wilmington - up from $29 million in 2009. On November 9 - the day before Cucalorus starts - film industry veterans will talk about the state of the industry, how filming locations are selected and what Wilmington can do to continue to grow its film businesses.
