Motorola Grants $50,000 to C.O.P.S. for the 2012 Parents Retreat

motorola

We are delighted to announce that the Motorola Solutions Foundation approved a grant submitted by the C.O.P.S.' Development Office for $50,000 to underwrite the 2012 Parents Retreat!  The Motorola Solutions Foundation has been a long-time supporter of C.O.P.S.' mission, and in the past few years has stepped up financially to underwrite expenses for C.O.P.S.' hands-on programs.  This year's grant represents a significant increase in support over past years. "The Motorola Solutions Foundation is proud to support programs like C.O.P.S., which provide safety education and training programs for first responders, their families and the general public," said Matt Blakely, director, Motorola Solutions Foundation.

Many thanks to Motorola Solutions for their continuing support!

C.O.P.S. Staff Member Garners Local Award

Carolyn Davinroy, Development Director at the National Office of C.O.P.S., was chosen as one of the Top 10 Women of the Year in the Lake area where the National Office is located. Each year, Lake Media and Lake Lifestyle Magazine recognizes the lake's top 10 women, honoring those who have made an extraordinary contribution to the community through business and/or civic service. Nominees were judged on the following criteria:  accomplishments in vocation; exhibits leadership and vision; ethical and moral values; has a positive impact on the community; makes contributions to the community such as service in charitable, non-profit or civic organizations that enhance the quality of life in the lake area.

Carolyn was nominated for this honor by five prominent lake area individuals including Mariah Hughes, C.O.P.S. CEO.  In her letter to the nominating committee, Mariah remarked "What got my attention immediately about Carolyn, other than her fundraising expertise, was her knowledge of the lake area community and her support for many of its charities and other organizations.  Carolyn has been a lake area resident for many years and takes her community responsibilities seriously."

Carolyn and the other nine women who were chosen for 2012 will participate in various charitable and community activities throughout the coming year, including a reception in January to honor both current and past recipients of this honor.  They will also be gracing the cover of the January-February Lake Lifestyle Magazine.

Congratulations Carolyn!

Holiday Memorials
TreeEach year National C.O.P.S. provides survivors the opportunity to make holiday contributions in memory of their fallen officer. For each donation, a special ornament is placed on the Christmas tree in the National Office. This year, a commemorative ornament was placed in memory of the fallen officer for each donation of $100 or more. A crystal star was placed on the tree for all other donations. Survivors gave a total of $44,672 this holiday season benefiting C.O.P.S.

The commemorative ornaments were mailed
this week to those survivors who contributed $100 or more. The ornaments have a space where their officer's name and End of Watch can be engraved. We hope these ornaments adorn Christmas trees across America for many years in honor of the men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Testimonial

"At C.O.P.S. Kids Camp our lives slowed down enough to take time to understand our grief, connect with others who experienced a similar loss, and learn new ways to move forward together as a family. I saw my children engage in meaningful relationships and activities in ways that I had not seen since my husband died nearly three years ago. It was a true gift to see their confidence build and to see smiles return."
