Concerns of Police Survivors Chapter Now in Iowa
On November 12, 2010, the Iowa Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) was chartered by the National Board. The Iowa chapter is comprised of 103 members, most of whom are surviving family members and affected co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty across Iowa. The chapter's purpose is to provide strong peer support at the grass roots level and assist newly-bereaved law enforcement families to attend grief retreats provided by National C.O.P.S. C.O.P.S. depends on its chapters to be available locally when an officer is killed in the line of duty, responding shortly after the tragedy, attending wakes and funerals, meeting with surviving family members, and being available to answer questions about the issues that often arise with a sudden, violent death.

Testimonial
"Experiencing how C.O.P.S. was able to smooth the edges of a jagged hole that was left inside of me after my husband's death helped me realize the importance of getting a chapter started in Iowa. Our goal is to help others know they are not alone. We all stand together in support and there will always be someone there to get them through the darkest of times. Members of C.O.P.S. truly understand what they are going through with the loss of their loved one."
-Melisa Wissink, President of the new Iowa C.O.P.S. Chapter and surviving spouse of Police Officer Sean Wissink with the Des Moines Police Department, End of Watch February 11, 2007
