Holiday Ornament
Christmas 2010 OrnamentIn November, the entire C.O.P.S. mailing list received C.O.P.S.' annual appeal for contributions from families who have experienced support from Concerns of Police Survivors. Survivors contributing $100 or more will have an ornament placed on the C.O.P.S. Christmas tree at the National Office bearing their fallen officers' name and End of Watch. The ornament will then be mailed to the surviving family in January for their personal future use. For contributions under $100, a crystal star will be placed on the C.O.P.S. Christmas tree.

Parents Retreat

Parents RetreatThere were 191 surviving parents of America's fallen law enforcement officers at the October 29-November 1 annual Parents' Retreat at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. At the retreat, the parents attended grief seminars, debriefing sessions, and participated in outdoor activities presented by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and 4-H staff members; the programs help the survivors to learn new outdoor skills and rebuild self-esteem. Archery, fishing, nature photography, shooting sports, laser shooting sports, canoeing, outdoor/indoor climbing towers, and a wildlife hike helped participants deal with the difficulties they are experiencing from the death of their child and pushed the survivors to expand their comfort level by learning new skills.

Survivor Sandy AdamsSandra Adams Elected to US Congress
Concerns of Police Survivors is proud to announce that a member of C.O.P.S. has been elected to the US Congress. On Tuesday, November 2, 2010, Sandy (Seton) Adams won the race for the 24th Congressional District of Florida. Sandy became a member of C.O.P.S. following the death of her husband, Orange County (FL) Deputy Frank Seton, EOW January 4, 1989.  Sandy also served as an Orange County Deputy for 17 years and was elected to the state legislature in 2002.  She was one of the founding members of the Central Florida C.O.P.S. Chapter.  Following Frank's line-of-duty death, Sandy became active in citizens' and victims' rights issues and continues to champion those issues.

Sandy later married Judge John Adams and still takes part in C.O.P.S. events and understands the needs of America's law enforcement survivors.  Congratulations to Congresswoman Sandy Adams.

Testimonial

"On April 13, 2007, our lives changed forever when our son was involved in an automobile accident that would take his life. Six months later, we attended C.O.P.S. Parent Retreat and it was the best thing that we could have done. We met people that knew exactly how we felt. With these families we cry, we laugh, we share our memories, and we lift each other up.  We have C.O.P.S. to thank for helping us get where we are today."
