Every year Concerns of Police Survivors encourages law enforcement families, friends, and law enforcement agencies to decorate in blue lights for the coming holiday season. This year, Concerns of Police Survivors' largest corporate sponsor, Streamlight®, has created a blue candle with a blue light in support of Project Blue Light.

Visit www.nationalcops.org to place an order online.

Orders will be filled and mailed the first week in December. Order now! Only 7,000 available.

COPS Walk Raises an Outstanding $263,000!
COPS Walk 2010

The 6th Annual COPS Walk brought together survivors of fallen law enforcement officers and friends from the law enforcement community who were willing to take on the challenge of walking 25 miles in two days to support Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.). The walk kicked off with 104 participants on Saturday, October 9, 2010.  They walked 12.5 miles on Saturday and Sunday along the C&O Canal in Harper's Ferry, WV.

Participants, the majority of whom are law enforcement survivors, were asked to raise a minimum of $1,000 on behalf of Concerns of Police Survivors. Last year's COPS Walk raised $184,400 and this year's walk raised an outstanding $263,000!

Recognition was given to walkers raising $2,500 or more and special recognition was given to Theresa Smith, surviving fiancée of John Hoglund, End of Watch 5/29/1992, of Palm Springs, California, who raised a total of $13,430. Also recognized was Team Virginia, with 16 walkers, who raised $36,959.

Holiday Ornament
Christmas 2010 OrnamentIn early November, the entire C.O.P.S. mailing list will receive C.O.P.S.' annual appeal for contributions from families who have experienced support for Concerns of Police Survivors. Survivors contributing $100 or more will have an ornament placed on the C.O.P.S. Christmas tree at the National Office bearing their fallen officers' name and End of Watch. The ornament will then be mailed to the surviving family in January for their personal future use. For contributions under $100, a crystal star will be placed on the C.O.P.S. Christmas tree.

C.O.P.S. In-Laws Retreat

Exactly 20 surviving in-laws of America's fallen law enforcement officers from all across the nation met in Missouri the weekend of October 15-18, 2010, to attend C.O.P.S. annual In-Laws Retreat.

The in-laws attended grief seminars, debriefing sessions, participated in archery, pistols, rope obstacle courses and other challenging outdoor activities. They found tremendous peer support from other survivors who attended from all across the country.

Testimonial

"The last night at the retreat, I went to bed and couldn't sleep. I couldn't sleep because I was happy. I think some of that guilt I had went away. The best analogy I can give is when you were a little kid at Christmas and you couldn't wait to get up to see what Santa left.  That's how I felt.  I knew tomorrow would be a better day. I had hope for the first time that I could get better."
