This year, Concerns of Police Survivors' largest corporate sponsor, Streamlight®, has created a blue candle with a blue light in support of Project Blue Light. Visit www.nationalcops.org to place an order online or email patty_friend@nationalcops.org for an order form. Orders will be filled and mailed the first week in December. Order now! Only 7,000 available.

Holiday Ornament In early November, the entire C.O.P.S. mailing list will receive C.O.P.S.' annual appeal for contributions from families who have experienced support for Concerns of Police Survivors. Survivors contributing $100 or more will have an ornament placed on the C.O.P.S. Christmas tree at the National Office bearing their fallen officers' name and End of Watch. The ornament will then be mailed to the surviving family in January for their personal future use. For contributions under $100, a crystal star will be placed on the C.O.P.S. Christmas tree. |

Siblings Retreat

On Friday, September 10, 2010, 95 survivors gathered at the YMCA Trout Lodge in Potosi, Missouri, for the 15th annual Siblings Retreat. The usual activities of pistols, archery, and fishing were presented by the Missouri Conservation Department and the Alpine Tower and high ropes course provided challenging outdoor activities and opportunity to spend time with other survivors. |

Largest Annual Spouses Retreat

C.O.P.S. held its 15th annual Spouses Retreat for 100 spouses at the YMCA Trout Lodge on Sunnen Lake in Potosi, Missouri, September 17-20, 2010. The retreat was held for spouses of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. At the retreat survivors attended grief seminars led by mental health professionals and found great support from their peers. Outdoor challenges were also presented to help the survivors learn new skills and rebuild self-esteem which is often destroyed with the sudden, violent death of a loved one. |

Affected Co-Workers Retreat Great Success
In C.O.P.S.' first attempt at a Co-Workers Retreat, we hit a home run. Comments from the 43 attendees were very positive and every one stated they were going home after having experienced some phenomenal healing. The retreat was run in exactly the same manner as retreats for surviving family members and the last night's camp fire was even a hit. Comments from the participants included:
I found a torch to help me find my way.
I don't feel alone anymore.
I can't wait to get home and start living again.
And every one of the attendees stated they will do what they can to bring other co-workers who they know are still hurting from the death of a co-worker in the line of duty.
To ensure the confidentiality of attendees, C.O.P.S. will not be publishing any photos nor names of participants. |

Testimonial
"Thanks to the counselors, support staff, and my fellow sibling survivors. I have a new outlook on life and the anxiety and stress that I felt before has been tremendously reduced. I feel happiness and relief that I haven't experienced since my brother passed away nearly five years ago. Thank you. I am extremely grateful."
Steve Walker, surviving sibling of Lt. Michael Walker, California Highway Patrol, End of Watch December 31, 2005, after attending Siblings Retreat 2010 |
