Winter 2012
Mid-winter clothing sale - Going on now! Keep the faith!

Snow may be thin or even non-existent where you live this season, but don't lose faith—there's still a lot of winter left. If Old Man Winter would just give the jet stream a good kick in the pants, we might crank out a few good snowstorms yet. Despite thin snow, the Hayward/ Cable area has been really lucky this season. We've had skiable snow since early December, and, with recent snowfall, large sections of the Birkie Trail and other area trails have been good enough for your best skis. Classic tracks have been set on portions of the local trails as well. Some trail sections with greater sun exposure or heavy conifer growth may still have very thin snow cover, so skiers should use their rock skis to avoid damaging their good skis. For up-to-date trail reports, check out Birkie.com, Norwiski.com and Skinnyski.com for first-hand reports from both skiers and groomers, or give us a call here at the shop and chat with one of our skiing-obsessed staff members.

What does all this mean for the Birkie? It is way too early to say at this point. The Birkie's highly-skilled grooming staff has been careful to not over-groom thin areas and have a fleet of state-of-the-art grooming equipment, including equipment specifically tuned to deal with thin snow cover. This is just one of the important uses of Birkie race fees and trail fees. Rest assured, the good folks at the Birkie will do everything in their power to pull off another world class event!
