35^th Anniversary Catalog

With another wonderfully snowy ski season just around the corner, we're happy to announce that our 35^th Anniversary Edition Nordic Ski Catalog will be available in just a few weeks.

35^th anniversary??? That's right! New Moon got it's start way back in 1976 as a small, seasonal shop right here in Hayward, Wisconsin as the fledgling American Birkebeiner was rapidly gaining popularity. New Moon founders Steve and Melisa Morales used their collective passion for Nordic skiing and the Birkie to grow New Moon into one of the most respected Nordic ski stores anywhere. Steve and Melisa have since retired, but the passion for the sport lives on at New Moon Ski Shop.

The tradition of our mail order catalog began back in the early 1980s and still continues today. With the internet literally steamrolling us with information these days, there's still something special about kicking back and flipping through a paper catalog. If you've received our annual catalog in the past, don't worry—you'll see yours soon. New "Moonies"

Our highest priority at New Moon is customer satisfaction. To that end, we are pleased to welcome a few new staff members. They all share a love of Nordic skiing, fitness, and the outdoors as a major part of their daily lives and are eager to make your skiing or any outdoor experience an enjoyable one. Drop in and say hi!

Amy recently left a successful professional career in Rochester, Minnesota to pursue a lifestyle of skiing, cycling, and goofing off with other like-minded outdoor enthusiasts here in Birkie Country. She was raised in Rochester, MN, with life taking her from there to Moorhead, MN for college, then on to Montana and Colorado for several years, then back to Rochester where she met her husband who introduced her to the Wisconsin Northwoods. After years of weekending in the area, Amy and her husband decided to say goodbye to city/corporate life & move to Hayward. "We decided why not live where we love to play!" Amy is an active member of Ski & Tea and has competed in and volunteered for many of the area's skiing and biking events. She brings a wealth of outdoor and retail experience to the shop as well as a friendly smile. New Moon is fortunate to have Amy on board!

Santi hails from Spooner, Wisconsin—just down the road from Hayward. Steadily progressing and developing through the Wisconsin high school racing circuit and later with the UW Green Bay NCAA Ski Team, he's now a CXC Elite Team member, bumping elbows with some of the best elite skiers from around the world. He recently was married to elite skier Carolyn Freeman (see below), also on the CXC Elite Team. You'll be lucky to see Santi at the shop this season due to his rigorous training and racing schedule with CXC, but if you do, be sure to wish him luck!

Originally from Ely, Minnesota, and married to Santi (see above), Carolyn also has ski racing in her blood. She's competed seriously in the Minnesota High School Circuit, later as a UW Green Bay elite, and now skis with the CXC Elite squad with husband Santi. Carolyn has no plans on quitting soon, and a future World Cup appearance or even an Olympic bid are not out of the question for her! Like Santi, she'll be a moving target this winter. We all wish her the best of luck this season!

Hayward native Bruce is an old friend of New Moon. He raced with the Hayward High school Nordic Ski Team in the 1980s under coach and New Moon founder, Steve Morales. Bruce moved on to become a highly accomplished elite Birkie skier, racing competitively in the Midwest racing scene through the 1990s. Bruce now has a family and a successful lawn care and property maintenance business, but skiing remains a key part his family's life. As an expert Nordic ski salesman and a world-class ski technician, he's looking forward to helping out fellow XC skiers.

Big Boots
You asked, they listened. Several boot models from Salomon and Rossignol now offer extended sizing—up to size 15.5 U.S. in some cases!

Salomon models include Salomon S-Lab Skate, Salomon S-Lab Classic, Salomon Active 8 Classic Pilot, and Salomon Active Pilot Combi.

Rossignol models include Rossignol WC X-Ium Skate and X5. These models are highlighted in our upcoming catalog.
