Get Into The Grind

The Birkie is right around the corner and your motor had better be tuned up by now! However, it's not too late to tune up your favorite race skis with a precision stone grind from New Moon, and new for 2010, we are now accepting most waxless skis for grinding. There is an additional $15 charge for waxless grinds due to the extra care involved. New Moon's "Old Man Winter" cold grind has been receiving plenty of praise from racers this season at some very chilly races around the country. Things have now warmed up a bit in the upper Midwest, and the "New Moon Universal" grind is really flying as well. "What grind should I get?" is the most common question we get regarding grinding. If you live in a cold or low humidity region, ie. Upper Midwest, Fairbanks, Colorado, etc., the Old Man Winter cold grind is a great choice from November through most of February. The cold grinds are easy to speed up with a light rill if you experience a mid-winter thaw. The Universal grind is ideal for temps from the mid teens to the mid thirties and is faster than the cold grind in more transformed and moister snows. New Moon also has specialty grinds for other conditions as well. Grind batches are processed weekly, so turn-around is usually 2-6 days depending on scheduling and volume. We are glad to help you determine what grind is best for your situation, just give us a call!
