Local Produce Report
Local Produce arrives to the Berkshire Organics Store by 1pm Wednesdays. More produce comes in Fridays by 10am. Here is a look at the featured local produce in this week's baskets & in the store.
 Strawberries - Can you believe they're back again? This week's baskets will feature a late summer variety of local strawberries from Love Apple Farm. Strawberries will also be available in the store by 4pm Wed.
Blackberries - Available this week and for the next several weeks. The blackberries from Love Apple Farm are not to be missed. Plump & Juicy!
 Beans - Green & Yellow Beans are here and in the baskets and available in the store this week.
Peaches- Peaches galore! Donut, Yellow & White Varieties available this week.
Plums - Shiro Golden Plums are now available as well as the Early Magic Red Plums.
Apricots - They're here one more week so enjoy them while they last! Very short season. Farmer Chris tells us these trees are very hard to maintain & grow.
Blueberries - Supplies have stabilized. We have a great supply coming in. This is a great season for local blueberries. Sweet & delicious!
Onions - Many farms have onions to offer. This week we have red & white bunched and scallions.
Tomatoes - Grape Tomatoes are here this week. Regular red slicing tomatoes, yellow, & heirloom varieties are also available.
Corn - This week's baskets feature corn from Smiarowski Farm in Sunderland, MA. This corn is grown organically but it is not certified. We are also offering Certified Organic Corn from Lakeside Organics in Hadley, MA (for an extra .25 per ear). If you prefer the certified organic, please let us know. Both varieties will also be available at the store.
Potatoes - The first potatoes are here. Varieties include: Dark Red Norland, Kennebec & Yukon. Delicious for potato salads.
Peppers - Field grown Green Bell Peppers are coming in. Also, some yellow & red peppers from Berlin's Best. Plus, hot Serrano & Messila Peppers will make an appearance this week.
Carrots - Various colors are here this week! This is a peak time for local carrots. This week we have white, purple, yellow, & orange.
Eggplant - Beautiful Italian & Japanese Eggplant will be in this week's baskets & in the store..
Beets- This is a great time for beets of all colors: Gold, Chiogga & Red. Local farms thank you for eating your beets!
Cucumbers - Three varieties of cucumbers are available this week: Lemon, regular slicers & European. 
Greens - We've got them! Lettuce, Kale, Chard, Collards, Spinach, Arugula & Salad Mix.
Broccoli & Cauliflower- Local Broccoli & Cauliflower are on hiatus this week as we wait for another field to be ready for harvest.
Cherries- Done for the season but we do have organic Dark Red & Rainier cherries from WA state coming in for cherry lovers.

Beer-Battered Fish Tacos with Tomato & Avocado Salsa - Eatingwell.com
Lovers of fried fish get the taste without all the calories, and the salsa adds a fresh, clean note. To complete the Baja theme, serve with black beans, some diced mango and a bit of sour cream. 2 servings | Active Time:30 minutes | Total Time:30 minutes

 Tomato & Avocado Salsa, (recipe follows)
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon ground cumin
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
1/3 cup beer
8 ounces fresh fish fillets (Cod, Tilapia Haddock), cut crosswise into 1-inch wide strips
2 teaspoons canola oil
4 corn tortillas, warmed
Preparation: Prepare Tomato & Avocado Salsa, if using. Combine flour, cumin, salt and cayenne in a medium bowl. Whisk in beer to create a batter. Coat fish pieces in the batter. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Letting excess batter drip back into the bowl, add the fish to the pan; cook until crispy and golden, 2 to 4 minutes per side. Serve the fish with tortillas and salsa. Tomato & Avocado Salsa
You'll love this quick and delicious salsa so much, you'll want to make it for every Taco Night. About 1 1/2 cups | Active Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
1 large tomato, diced
1/4 cup diced red onion
1/2 serrano, minced
2-3 tablespoons lime juice
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/2 avocado, diced
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Pinch of cayenne, if desired
Preparation: Combine tomato, onion, jalapeno, lime juice to taste, salt and pepper in a medium bowl. Stir in avocado and cilantro. Add cayenne (if using).
