Our Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Miami has been approved, Time is a critical factor as we enter a new phase in our efforts to restore and operate the Miami Marine Stadium.

Next Steps

Our agreement with the City of Miami states that we must provide complete operating plans within six months and full funding for restoration of the Stadium within two years.

These are formidable tasks with equally challenging time frames. We are now at work on both the site plan and the development of an operating plan for the Marine Stadium. We have also contracted the Washington Economics Group to complete an economic impact study of the Marine Stadium. This study will be based on construction cost estimates that we have developed with Skanska USA and a schedule of planned events that we have developed with The Heat Group - operators of the American Airlines Arena. We expect to have our operating plans completed within the six month time frame. This information  also helps us provide Miami-Dade County with the required back-up to their $3 million allocation from the Historic Preservation Program which was authorized in April, 2010.

Once our business planning is complete, we can immediately pursue fundraising opportunities.

The above work is funded by a $50,000 grant received from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Press

The passage of the Memorandum of Understanding by the City of Miami, the High Line Event featuring co-founder Robert Hammond, and the dinner honoring the stadium's original
Engineer Jack Meyer have generated a great buzz:

The Associated Press' video news feature on the Marine Stadium was syndicated to all their television affiliates nationwide and all  their web platforms. This is terrific exposure for us.

Eliott Rodriguez of the local CBS affiliate,  Channel 4, conducted an interview with Don Worth, Co-Founder of Friends of Miami Marine Stadium.

The Brickell Reporter published a positive story on our efforts, comparing the Marine Stadium to the new Marlins Stadium.

The Biscayne Times provided an interesting perspective on the Miami City Commission and our efforts to get our legislation approved.

Interest in the Marine Stadium seems to come from everywhere. A few months ago, we were contacted by Ivan Marovic, a Ph.D student in Civil Engineering from Croatia. He recently co-authored an article comparing the Miami Marine Stadium to a torpedo launch station in RIjeka, Croatia.
