GET TO vs. NEED TO
We go through life with this pervasive sense of urgency. It's because we have been conditioned to believe that we should be somewhere other than where we are (more specifically, "further along"). We've been influenced to believe that where we are and who we are right now is inadequate. That's a big lie. And even though the majority of us use that urgency as a source of motivation, ironically, it compromises our ability to get things done.
Let's consider the critical distinction: Get To vs. Need To.
"Productivity" has become a term laden with the judgment or interpretation that if you're productive you're good, and if you're not, you're bad. "My day was great today BECAUSE it was productive," or, "today was a waste BECAUSE it was unproductive."
What motivates people who create lives that they love? (That, by the way, is a great measure of productivity - the ability to create your life as you want it.) They are driven by desire, not need. They are inspired by a grand vision for themselves, their lives, their loved ones, the world. And they know they don't need it. They simple want it. Because it's cool. And because they can.
That's the big point. We don't NEED to be productive. We GET to be, by virtue of having arrived into this highly improbable event we call life. We got into the big party. What do you feel like doing? Let's create a grand vision. A compelling project. And let's consume ourselves with it. Because we GET to do that.
NEED breeds urgency which breeds paralysis.
DESIRE breeds inspiration which activates intelligence and creativity, which in turn breed disciplined action.
Right now, in this very moment, you are EXACTLY where you should be. And that is always true. You will never need to be anywhere other than exactly where you are. Integrate that.
You're EXACTLY where you need to be. You're life is as it should be. No matter what! And, if you feel like upgrading it - because you GET TO do that, great. Do it. That'll be fun.
Start with your grand vision. Clarify what that is for you. What's the big compelling project? How do you most profoundly want to use your life? What feels effortlessly rewarding and enriching and fun?
Get some clarity around that, and next week we'll do a follow-up message to this one in which we'll discuss the "Productivity Equation"...

We'll explore how to maximize productivity. Not because we NEED TO, but because we GET TO!
