WISHING VS. DECIDING
Let's spend a minute or two on a really important distinction...

DECISIVENESS:
The distinction between wishing and deciding is that wishing is weak and deciding is powerful. Wishing is nice and fluffy, and sweet. Deciding is determined, perseverant and committed.
We're conditioned to hope, to try, to wish for our desires. As if there's some force outside of ourselves that's going to bestow upon us, or grant us something. Wishing is woven into our rituals: "Make a wish before you blow out the candles", "Look, there's a shooting star! Make a wish!"
But results don't come from wishing alone. Results come from the intent + right action. And from where does right action come? From making a decision! From deciding that you will make it so, no matter what.
It's amazing what we can do when we have to. When we have to, we decide to, and there's no more curiosity about whether or not it will get done. When the boy leaps off the rocks, there's no more hoping. He's leapt. See the phrase in the Gandhi picture? "BE the change you wish to see in the world." BE. Don't wish. Be what you wish. Decide. And let's not wait until we have to.
When I'm in a state of hoping, I've got a chance. Likely a weak one, but still a chance.
When I've made a decision, it's still not a guarantee that I'll get what I want - but what IS guaranteed is that I will take right action, and SOMETHING miraculous will result.
Decide. And create miracles. |
