Dave Bruton at WAC 2009
 
The World Aerobatic Championships have resumed following the tragic crash on Saturday 22nd which claimed the life of American pilot Vicki Cruse. Vicki was well known and respected in aerobatic circles and was President of the International Aerobatic Club.
 
As we write, Friday's Technical Championships are on going and the top 20 pilots will compete in tomorrows 4 minute Freestyle Championships. This can be watched live online at www.airsports.tv

Dave Bruton, the only Irish participant (flying his Sukhoi SU-26 M2 EI-EAI) gave a short interview to airsports.tv which can be seen HERE. You can track his progress online at www.wac2009.com and the official results are available HERE. Discuss his progress on the forum at www.flyinginireland.com

Photo Competition
 
We had a fantastic response to our July photo competition with over 100 stunning photos sent in to us for consideration. It was extremely difficult to choose a winner. We were very impressed with the high standard of entries. The three winning photos have been published in the September magazine. The standard of photographs was so good that we deceided to publish the top ten photographs on our site and you can view them by CLICKING HERE. Upcoming Events
 
There are a few events still planned for the summer so here are a few important dates for your diary. Now you have no excuse for missing them!
 
August 28th-29th - Limetree Fly-In. "Hog in the Bog", Limetree fly-in for 2009 will be held on Saturday August 29th and Sunday 30th. Camping available for the overnight and there is a free minibus arranged for transport to and from the Gandon Inn for a few lucozades on Saturday night! (www.limetreeairfield.com)

September 5th - Weston Airport Fly-In. Prizes will be awarded on the day for the Oldest aircraft, Most distant departure point, Arrival closest to ETA and Spot landing competition. Following the days activities there will be a function that evening with dinner and dancing. There will be a small charge to cover the food and entertainment and accommodation is available at a special rate to Fly-In patrons. (www.westonairport.com)
 
September 6th - Kilrush Airfield is planning on holding its next open day on Sunday 6th September. Kick off should be early afternoon. E-mails to Ken Haslett manager@kilrushairfield.com(www.kilrushairfield.com)
 
September 5th-6th - N.I. International Airshow. Coleraine Borough Council invites you to the 8th NI International Airshow at the beautiful seaside setting of Portrush on the north coast of Northern Ireland. The spectacular West Bay of the bustling family resort is a natural amphitheatre for a free, 2-day programme of air displays, sea displays, arena shows, exhibitions and stalls. September 12th - Flyer Professional Flight Training Show, Dublin. This will be the third year running for this extremely successful show. Check out the ad in this months issue for more information. (www.flyer.co.uk/exhibitions)

September 20th - Kilkenny Fly-In. The Airfield Owner in conjunction with, Irish Aerosports Flying Club, the Kilkenny Flying & Gliding Club, the Recreational Flyling Club and the Private owners based at Kilkenny, invite everyone interested in Sport Aviation to attend our Fly-in on Sunday 20th September.

September 20th-25th - Irish Hot Air Ballooning Championship. The balloons are back!  Between the 20th and the 25th of September this year, Waterford hosts the National Hot Air Ballooning Championships for the second year running. (www.waterfordballooningclub.com)
 
September 26th-27th - Spanish Point, Fly-In, Co. Clare. B&B's, restaurants, pubs and hotels within walking distance. Details page 140 Kevin Glynn's book.
