Robbinsdale Area Schools Approves Custodial-Transportation Contract

The Robbinsdale Area School Board approved a new three-year contract with its custodial-transportation bargaining group, Tuesday, July 17.  The agreement was structured as a collective bargaining agreement and as a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that includes the resolution and settlement of the grievance brought forth by the group's union.

The three year contract includes a wage increase that is similar to the increase for other employee groups - 1% the first year, 1.5% the second year and 1% the third year.   In addition, 21 full-time driver/custodian positions will remain in-house with Robbinsdale Area Schools.  Click here to read more.

Learning From Each Other, A World Apart

The old adage is true:  you're never too old to learn, nor are you too far away, apparently.

Kristine Meldal, a teacher in Denmark (pictured on right), used some of her vacation time here in the United States to visit Zachary Lane Elementary School where she learned more about summer programming and about U.S. schools in general.  Kristine teaches elementary school in Copenhagen.

Lisa Jensen, who is coordinating Robbinsdale Area School's summer targeted services program at Zachary Lane, was excited for the chance to meet and talk with a Danish teacher, as she speaks some Danish, has relatives in Denmark, and studied in Sweden.

Both Lisa and Kristine had plenty of questions for each other and they will continue their communication with each other in the fall, when their students will become pen pals.  Having pen pals in the United States will help Kristine's students hone their English skills.  And it will give Lisa's students a window to life and culture in a Scandinavian country.

Armstrong Graduate Headed to "Ultimate" Destination

Erynn Schroeder, a 2011 graduate of Robbinsdale Armstrong High School and a student at the College of St. Benedict, will have to wait a little while to go shopping for college supplies this summer.

Erynn has been accepted onto Team USA at the upcoming World Junior Ultimate Frisbee Championships, which will compete against fourteen other countries in Dublin, Ireland, from August 12-17.   She will be the only female representative from the state of Minnesota on the team of 20, and one of only three Minnesotans on any Team USA roster at the championship.

"This is an amazing opportunity!" stated Erynn.  "It is a huge honor to be representing our country, and I am confident that my team and I are ready and will represent the United States well."
