Plymouth Middle School Education Assistant Named EA of the YearVictoria Arabanos

Victoria Arabanos, an Academic Behavior
Support supervisor at Plymouth Middle School (PMS) has been named Robinsdale Area Schools 2012 EA of the year.

Ms. Arabanos, with past experience serving in the military, brings a strong example of leadership, confidence, discipline and character to her students, serving as a supervisor for In-School Suspension (ISS) at PMS.  "I have supervised ISS for ten years," Arabanos wrote in her screening survey.  "Over the years, I have learned the most important technique of all is the ability to listen and read between the lines, so to speak, when dealing with students."

Cooper Chamber Singers Perform at President's Visit

The Robbinsdale Cooper Chamber Singers got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on June 1, as they were chosen to perform the National Anthem at President Obama's visit to Honeywell in Golden Valley.  The students took three final exams before heading to Honeywell where, after performing, they stayed to listen to the President's speech.  A student reporter from the Quill covered the event for a story in the Sun papers.   For the seniors in the choir, it was an amazing last day of their K-12 education journey!  Click here to view their performance.

Neill and PMS DI Teams Rank Fourth at Globals

The two Destination ImagiNation (DI) teams representing Robbinsdale Area Schools at the 2012 Global Tournament proved that imagination can, indeed, dictate destination.  Theirs was to take home fourth place in their age group with 1,276 teams competing from 45 states, seven Canadian provinces and thirteen countries.  This result came on the heels of the two teams placing first in the state of Minnesota in April.

The Neill Elementary School Ostriches took fourth place in their challenge, which was to present a movie trailer involving characters from at least two nations.  The Pink Ladies of Plymouth Middle School were part of the middle level Coming Attractions challenge where they created a movie trailer titled The Adventures of the Pink Ladies.

Noble Students Take a Walk in Asia!

National Geographic Giant Traveling Maps are enormously entertaining and educationally powerful tools for introducing geography and map reading skills to students.  The maps bring hands-on (and feet-on!) geography education to thousands of students each year.  The giant maps made their appearance at both Neill and Noble in late spring.

The maps and accompanying activities incorporate physical movement and games to teach students place names, physical geography, and cultural geography as well as map reading skills.

A Cavalcade of Water Balloons Mark MAP Growth

Congratulations to the students at Lakeview Elementary on reaching their goals for academic growth on the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP).  They were rewarded with Ms. Rens' beautiful blue fauxhawk - and, if a student made his or her individual growth target on the math or reading MAP, he/she got to throw a water balloon at the principal.  On Monday, 593 water balloons flew through the air directly in Ms. Rens' direction!
