| Cooper Students Honored for their Leadership in Service to Community
Robbinsdale Cooper High School was awarded "Most Creative Presentation" at the recent 2012 Students in Action Spring Competition, held on the campus of the University of Minnesota on April 14. "Students In Action," a Jefferson Awards initiative, empowers high school students to lead a movement to grow volunteerism in their school. Students from Cooper developed their presentation as a way to communicate the progress they have made towards enhancing the culture of service and volunteerism at their school.
They were recognized with this distinction by a local panel of judges which included representatives from the Minnesota Vikings, Hamline University, and CenterPoint Energy. The students from Cooper finished 3rd overall in the competition and earned a Silver Service Banner for their school. Reading to the Dogs and Bunnies!
On Monday, April 23, Zachary Lane students and families celebrated the second time that World Book Night has come to the United States through a reading event with Reading Education Assistance (READ) Dogs. The students read with one of the specially trained dogs or a specially trained rabbit. The therapy animals provide a safe and relaxed way for students to work on their reading - even if they're good readers! This was the first time Robbinsdale Area Schools' students utilized the Reading Education Assistance Dogs. Families who came to the event received a free book from World Book Night.
