"A" School STRIVE Students Receive Scholarships

Nineteen "A" School students from Robbinsdale Armstrong High School who participated in the STRIVE (Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) received over $7,000 in post-secondary scholarships from the Golden Valley Rotary.  Students' colleges of choice matched scholarship awards as well. Congratulations!

Cooper Students Selected for Internship Program


Six talCHS logoented Robbinsdale Cooper High School students have been selected to participate in Genesys Works, a program which enables high school seniors to work in meaningful internships at major corporations during their senior year.

Devin Daye, Grace Kariuki, Waqas Khan, Gao la Lor, TouMong Vang, and Joel Vodis, currently juniors, will attend an eight-week training program this summer with Genesys Works, and then work part time throughout their senior at one of over 30 companies in the Twin Cities, including 3M, United Health Group, Ecolab and more.  Click here to read the full story.

Highview Students Score Big at State MAAP/STARS Conference

Seventeen students from the Robbinsdale Highview Alternative Program competed in the State MAAP/STARS Spring Event Conference on April 19 and 20.  Over 400 students from around the state attended.

Highview students dominated the Public Speaking event taking 1st, 3rd and 6th place.  Teams made up of Highview students also placed in different categories.  Click here to read more.

Armstrong and Cooper Students Receive TwinWest Foundation Scholarships

Congratulations to the following students who are this year's TwinWest Chamber of Commerce Foundation scholarship recipients.  Armstrong: Anna Hjerpe, Ian Jaeger, Allison Gove, Kathleen Speak, Hannah Weber, and Wenshi Zhang.  Cooper:  Esther Ajayi, Tanzim Hossain, Jazmyn Lee, Ruby Lunzer, Elizabeth Preuss, and Marek Zorawski.

Each year TwinWest Foundation scholarships are granted to graduating high school students from TwinWest member school districts and private schools. Students are evaluated based on their academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, community service, work history, and financial need. 
Students will be honored at a reception on May 24.

Interschool Council Scholarships Awarded
 
Robbinsdale Area Schools Interschool Council (ISC) is delighted to announce the recipients of its 2011-2012 scholarships.  Fershteh Karimi, a resident of Brooklyn Park and a Cooper High School senior, and Sheila Meh, a resident of Brooklyn Center and an Armstrong High School senior, will each receive $700 scholarships.  Both students have attended Robbinsdale Area Schools for eleven years or more.  The scholarships are provided by donations from the parent groups of each district elementary, middle and high school and ECFE, through the Interschool Council.  We congratulate both students and wish them the very best in their future studies.  Click here to learn more about ISC.

Armstrong Senior Sam Donner Takes First in Art Contest

Congratulations to Robbinsdale Armstrong High School Senior Sam Donner who took first place in the Plymouth Primavera Art Show.  Sam's design will be printed up as a banner and hung from light poles in Plymouth this summer.  Josh Paavola and Austin Gardner also won Awards of Excellence in the show.

BrandLab Awards Highview Students with Internships, Scholarships

Integrating relevant curriculum with real-world learning can reap great rewards.  Using creative thinking and problem solving, seven students from Highview Alternative Program have earned awards in the second BrandLab marketing program, including summer internships, scholarships, and tuition-free summer courses.  Congratulations to all!

PMS Eighth Grader Accepted to Sphinx Summer Performance Academy

Congratulations to Anthony Brown-Norton, an eighth grader at Plymouth Middle School, who was accepted into the Sphinx Summer Performance Academy, a very competitive national program for aspiring Black and Latino string players, and the only summer institute of its kind in the nation.  He'll attend the summer academy at Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio.

Elementary Students Place at State Chess Tournament 

Robbinsdale district elementary students had a fantastic showing at the State Chess Tournament.  Zachary Lane, Sonnesyn, and RSI finished 8th, 9th and 10th respectively in the kindergarten-third grade section out of 114 schools competing.  Lakeview and Neill Elementary schools also had teams competing.  Congratulations to all of the students and their coaches for a great season.

Treble Tones Spring Benefit Concert

"Turn, Turn Turn: Singin' the Seasons," the Treble Tones spring concert is Saturday, May 19, 2012, 4 - 7 p.m. at Holy Nativity Church.  The Treble Tones are a woman's choral group in the area which have quite a few members who are former employees of Robbinsdale Area Schools.  Tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under, are available at the door.  Concert proceeds help support SafeJourney at North Memorial Hospital.
