Spring Art Show Open House Reception March 15 

   

Artwork by students from throughout the district is on display from March 7 through April 10 at the Brookdale Library, 6125 Shingle Creek Pkwy, Brooklyn Center.  An open house reception is Thursday, March 15, 4:30 - 6 p.m. with music accompaniment by the Robbinsdale Armstrong Chamber Orchestra.

Let's Fill Those Empty Bowls on March 15 


Join your friends and community members for the second annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser on Thursday, March 15 from 4-7p.m. at Sandburg Learning Center, 2400 Sandburg Drive in Golden Valley.  Take time to break bread and enjoy scrumptious soup, donated by local businesses and served in a bowl made by local pottery students and artists.  Offer a donation to Empty Bowls, listen to local musical entertainment, and enjoy the company of others.  All proceeds go to PRISM and NEAR, two local food shelves that serve the Robbinsdale Area Schools community.  Click here for more information.

Bruce Henry, RMS Students to Perform The Evolution of African-American Music 

  

Singer, songwriter, and educator Bruce A. Henry and his band will join with Robbinsdale Middle School (RMS) student performers to present a special concert performance titled "The Evolution of African-American Music" on Friday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the RMS auditorium.  Call 763-504-4800 for more information.

3rd Annual Spelling Bee is March 17 

 

You don't need the luck o' the Irish to join the fun on Sat., March 17 at Robbinsdale Middle School, 3730 Toledo Ave. N., Robbinsdale! Your child/ren will compete with other students in his/her grade level, second through fifth grade, but everyone is welcome to attend and support the event. For more information, call 763-504-6999.

School Board Earns Excellence in Communications AwardStar Awards

The Robbinsdale Area School Board has been selected to receive the 2012 Minnesota School Public Relations Association (MinnSPRA) Excellence in School Board Communications Award.  The award recognizes an elected school board or individual board member for outstanding leadership and commitment to school public relations and communications.  The School Board has been selected in honor of their hard work and dedication in reaching all parts of their school community.

Website Changes to Happen Week of Spring Break


The way you navigate through the district's websites will be changing soon.  During the week of spring break, the horizontal quick links at the top of the district's, school's and employee websites as well as the top navigation links, which sit directly below the website header, will have name and title changes.  The drop-down menus will also change and/or have new names.  This has been a very intricate process, and will take place live.  We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time period as we work to make our web-pages more comprehensive and easier to navigate.
Magnet School Update
Magnet School Letters of Intent Due by 4 p.m. on March 20

Letters were mailed on March 9 to families who applied to Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School and the School of Engineering and Arts, notifying them of the lottery results.  Letters of intent to attend either school are due by 4:00 p.m. on March 20.  Final wait list placement will be made after the March 20 deadline for acceptance to either school.  Families needing more information regarding the wait list can inquire about placement the first week of April.

Armstrong High School's 8th Annual Band Variety ShowAHS logo

Don't miss this spectacular night of entertainment!  Join student hosts Christian Lowry, Nick Macklem, Paul Borowick and Jaren Eshelman Fri., Mar. 16, 7:00 p.m. in the Armstrong auditorium for entertainment provided by student Jazz Band-1, the AHS Drumline, vocal and instrumental performances as well as an adult jazz combo.  Refreshments are included with the price of admission.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors with a family maximum of $25.  Proceeds from this entertaining evening will be used to raise funds for the Armstrong band program.

RMS Students Earn Honorable Mentions in National Contest
NSTA Winners
Congratulations to the thirteen students at Robbinsdale Middle School who earned honorable mentions for their projects in the 2012 Toshiba/National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) ExploraVision Competition.  This national competition encourages students to demonstrate innovative thinking in their exploration of science and its impact on technology and the future.  Of the seven honorable mentions from the state of Minnesota, three teams were from RMS.   Click here to read more.

Northport Celebrates Year of the Dragon

2012 is the Year of the Dragon, and Northport Elementary School students are celebrating by participating in The Dragons are Singing Tonight 2012 School Residency Program, sponsored by TigerLion Arts. The residencies are coming to Northport beginning March 15th, and will give students a close look at the details of creating a musical.  Students will work with their teachers, Dragons musicians, including the director of the Minnesota Boychoir, and artists from In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre and Puppet Farm Arts.  TigerLion Arts is providing songbooks, art materials, and copies of The Dragons are Singing Tonight, famed poet Jack Prelutsky's award-winning book of dragon poems.

At the end of the puppet residency, the students will march their dragon creations in a school parade. Click here to read more about this dragon collaboration!

Cooper Speech Students Earn All-Conference Honors

Three Robbinsdale Cooper High School students earned all-conference honors at the recent North Suburban Conference Speech contest held at St. Francis High School.  Katy Swanson, a senior at Cooper, earned first place, All Conference in the drama category while Senior Kari Roll took fourth place in drama, and Junior Greg Lewis earned fifth place in the Great Speeches category.  Click here to read more!

Check out all of the fun and exciting enrichment choices for your child this summer. One week classes are available between July 9 - August 3 for students who have completed kindergarten through eighth grade. Register by May 24 for the best price and selection. Seven Dreams new
The Seven Dreams Education Foundation (SDEF) is looking for potential board members for the upcoming year.  Since SDEF's inception in 2003, the Foundation has funded over 70 grants to support student success and maximize individual academic potential. The "Seven" in our name represents the seven communities in the Robbinsdale Area School District:  Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope, Plymouth and Robbinsdale.
