Additional Family Information Night Scheduled
The School of Engineering and Arts (SEA), the district's new K-5 Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) magnet school had an huge turnout on Feb. 13 for its first Family Information Night. We will hold an additional information night on February 23, 2012, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Olson Elementary, 1751 Kelly Drive, Golden Valley. Parents and/or guardians and children are welcome to attend to learn more about the new program. Structured childcare will be available for ages three and older. Spanish-speaking families are encouraged to arrive at 5:30 for translation assistance.

MDE's Waiver Request Approved by U.S. Dept. of Education
On February 9, the State of Minnesota received a federal waiver from the requirements of the federal education law known as "No Child Left Behind." The waiver allows the state to implement an accountability system that is more tailored to students, schools and districts in Minnesota that includes a growth component. History Day at RMS Explored Elvis, D-Day, Illegal Immigration and UGG® Boots
This year's theme, "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History," gave students the opportunity to explore moments in history that they often find the most interesting. Over 1,000 students with 450 projects competed in the annual History Day school level competition at Robbinsdale Middle School (RMS) on Feb. 9. Approximately 100 of those students will move on to the regional competition which will be hosted by RMS on March 6. Click here to see a slide show of the different entries.

TC Bear at Forest Elementary Reading Event
Special guest, TC Bear, pictured at left with principal Connie Grumdahl, surprised Forest Elementary students at their Reading Assembly on February 10. Forest's reading theme is "Reading is a Ball", and TC brought a book with him called TC Strikes Out. TC acted out the story while a second grade teacher read the book. TC was there to encourage kids to read. February is "I Love to Read" month! |

Congratulations to Robbinsdale Armstrong High School seniors Ryan Shellberg and David Wixon, who were recently named National Merit Finalists. They are among the one percent of the 1.5 million students who entered the National Merit Scholarship program this year.

Over 200 Robbinsdale Cooper High School students visited feeder schools on Wed., February 8 as part of their Cooper Day of Service, where they assisted teachers, delivered anti-bullying messages, read to students and provided one-on-one tutoring! |

Enroll Now for ECFE Preschool
Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Preschool is now accepting registrations for parents and their children, 3 to 5 years old. If your child is ready for preschool and you want parent education too, this is the program for you. Registrations for 2012-2013 ECFE Preschool classes received by 1 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2012, will be included in a random draw for residents of Robbinsdale Area Schools. Thereafter, families will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Out-of-district families may register beginning March 2, 2012. Click here for more information.

Get Ready for the 3rd Annual Spelling Bee
Think you can S-P-E-L-L? Join the fun on Sat., March 17 at Robbinsdale Middle School, 3730 Toledo Ave. N., Robbinsdale! Compete with other students in your grade level. The Spelling Bee is for students in second through fifth grade, but everyone is welcome to attend and support the event. Register now by calling 763-504-6999. Cost is $5. A practice list of words will be mailed home starting Feb. 24. |
