Catch a Bus to SEA Family Information Night
The School of Engineering and Arts (SEA), the district's new K-5 Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) magnet school, will hold a family information evening on February 13, 2012, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Olson Elementary, 1751 Kelly Drive, Golden Valley. Parents and/or guardians and children are welcome to attend to learn more about the new program. Structured childcare will be available. Spanish-speaking families are encouraged to arrive at 5:30 for translation assistance.
Busing to Olson for the information night will be available from each elementary school with the exception of Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School (RSIS). If you attend RSIS, you may pick up a bus at your neighborhood elementary school. Buses will be at the front door of each elementary school at 5:25 p.m. with departure for Olson at 5:40 p.m. For the return trip, buses will arrive at Olson at 7:55 p.m. and depart from Olson at 8:10 p.m.

School of Engineering and Arts (SEA) coordinator announced
Welcome to Cara Rieckenberg! Cara brings to the SEA School a diverse blend of rich experiences in education and science. With a combined ten years of experience as a sixth grade teacher and Environmental Education Coordinator, Cara transformed the Prior Lake-Savage Area School District to one focused on integration and implementation of Environmental Education into all curricular areas. She developed and maintained student leadership opportunities, multiple professional development opportunities and non-traditional classroom spaces. The result led to some of the top MDE MCA elementary science scores in the state, among other accolades. Click here to read more about Cara.

Kindergarten Information Nights Start February 9 
Kindergarten information and registration night for Forest, Lakeview, Meadow Lake, Neill, Noble, Northport, Sonnesyn and Zachary Lane elementary schools is Thursday, February 9, from 6 - 8 p.m. at each school. Children entering kindergarten and their parents and/or guardians are welcome to attend. Spanish-speaking families are encouraged to arrive at 5:30 for translation assistance.
Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School (RSIS), 8808 Medicine Lake Road, New Hope, will hold its parent and/or guardian-only information night on Thursday, February 16 from 6 - 8 p.m. Incoming students will be invited to attend Kindergarten Visitation Night at a later date.

IB Coordinator to Embark on International Work
Lauren Hildebrand, International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) Coordinator at Robbinsdale Middle School, recently returned from Bethesda, Maryland, where she was invited to work with a small committee to review and revise all global IB workshop guidelines. Ms. Hildebrand was one of only three MYP practitioners nationwide to be invited to serve on this committee. She has also been nominated as the schools representative from the Americas for the International MYP Committee, and will serve a two-year term working with the IBMYP world directors. MCRR to Recognize Armstrong and Meadow Lake
Minnesota Center for Reading and Research (MCRR) in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota will recognize Robbinsdale Armstrong High School and Meadow Lake Elementary at a celebration to honor the students, teachers and administration for successfully making AYP in reading for the past two academic years. Both schools will be honored at a School Recognition Ceremony on February 29 along with 130 Minnesota Schools. Congratulations to both schools!

Do You Want To Rock and Roll?
Armstrong and Cooper orchestras want to rock and roll! Make plans to attend the Rock Concert featuring Amber Halland, Clocks & Clouds and Hrossa, and members of the Armstrong and Cooper orchestras. The show is Tues., February 28, 7 p.m. in the Cooper Auditorium. Cost is $5; $20 max for families. This is a fundraiser to support both high school orchestras. |

Armstrong Vocalist Shares Top Honors
Corbin Jerde, a junior at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, was named along with Laura Block from the Blake School as joint winners of the Twin Cities Jewish Chorale's First Annual Young Solo Artist Competition, held on January 29. Entrants submitted recorded performances of works by Jewish composers, and finalists were invited to a live audition.
Corbin began her formal singing career in fifth grade as a member of the Robbinsdale All-District Elementary Choir. Since then, she has sung with the Bel Canto Girls Choir and the Minnesota Project Opera, and currently sings in the Robbinsdale Armstrong Concert Choir. Last summer, Corbin traveled to Australia to perform at the Sydney Opera House. Click here to read more about Corbin.

Congratulations to Armstrong and Cooper student athletes! On Wed., Feb. 1, 2012, five students signed National Letters of Intent to play sports at the following universities this fall:

Kaelyn Williams - University of Minnesota Duluth (D2) for Cross Country __________________________________________________________ Armstrong, Cooper Wrestlers Rumble The Robbinsdale Rumble wrestling match between the Armstrong Falcons and the Cooper Hawks took place Fri., Jan. 13 in a gym filled with wrestling history. Robbinsdale Middle School, whose halls at one time were filled with high school students, was home to 50 state individual wrestling champions when it was Robbinsdale High School. The Falcons and Hawks are tied at 2-2 since the match moved to RMS and became known as the Robbinsdale Rumble. The Robbinsdale Armstrong High School wrestling team expected to win going into the match. "We thought it would be close and would need some things to go our way," stated coach Bill McCloskey. "Cooper has a a young team this year, with one returning senior." Cooper jumped out to a 26-5 lead, then Armstrong went on a roll, sweeping the rest of the matches to win 45-26. |
