Barry Morrow - Robbinsdale High School, Class of 1966
An Academy Award-winning screen writer and producer, Barry started as a documentary film maker. He is perhaps best known for two movies. The first was Bill, which starred Mickey Rooney and Dennis Quaid. It told the story of Bill Sacter, who Barry met in Minneapolis and for whom he eventually became a legal guardian. This earned Barry an Emmy in 1981. In 1989 he received an Oscar for best original screenplay for Rain Man, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. He wrote the story and co-wrote the screenplay based upon his friendship with Kim Peek.
Barry has had a successful career as a writer and as a producer of a variety of films. He has also been a strong advocate for people with disabilities. He continues to be active in both endeavors.

"Building Bridges" singing event connects 5th graders to middle, high schools
Approximately 900 fifth graders will join middle and high school choir members for "Building Bridges," two simultaneous choral events which will be held Friday, January 13, at Robbinsdale Middle School (RMS) and Armstrong High School (AHS).
In its second year, the Building Bridges events are part of an effort to connect older elementary students to the schools they will attend as middle and high school students. RMS will host Forest, Lakeview, Meadow Lake, and Northport elementary schools. AHS will host Neill, Noble, Sonnesyn, RSIS and Zachary Lane elementary schools. It is also an opportunity to learn about the various music programs available to current fifth grade students as they prepare to register for middle school. The event will include mass singing at both schools of simple melodies, performances by middle and high school students, as well as a finale of mass singing of "The Star Spangled Banner." |
