School Board Meeting Calendar to Change

At the November 21 meeting, the Robbinsdale Area School Board approved changes to the School Board Calendar that will take effect beginning in January 2012.  The change in the meeting schedule will allow more time for school board members to connect in various ways with the community.

Regular meetings will still be held on the first and third Mondays of the month.  However, the first Monday meeting will be shorter and a work session will follow.  On the third Monday of the month, the Board will host its public listening time, a change from the current schedule that has the first Monday of the month as a public listening time.

To view the changes for the rest of the 2011-2012 school year, go to www.rdale.org and click on "District" and then "School Board".

Middle School Schedule Redesign Approved for 2012-13 School Year

The middle school schedule redesign was approved by the school board at the November 21 meeting, and will be implemented at the start of the 2012-13 school year.  The change will result in more consistency in the length of classes within and between our middle schools, with nearly every class 50 minutes in length.  Study halls will be eliminated, as will the Microsoft Office course.  Every student who hasn't met proficiency in Reading or Math will get a second class in that curricular area (two periods of Math and/or a period of English and one of Reading).  Every student will have at least one class period of Allied Arts.  Physical Education and Music will not be reduced.  The start and end times of the middle school day will not change.

Everyday Hero

Sue Rousseau - Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) teacher

at Cavanagh Early Childhood CenterEDH Sue Rousseau

How long with school district: Almost 35 years - two years as Volunteers in Action Childcare Coordinator, six years with Creative Play and almost 27 years with ECFE.

What I like best about my job: The people that I work with.  ECFE staff cares not only about the families that we teach, but also about each other.  It's a joy to come to work each day.

What other employees might not understand about what I do: Because parents are the first and most important teachers of their children, we teach the parents as well as the children.  That way the family is involved with the children's education from the very beginning.

A wonderful literacy mentoring program whose belief is: one mentor, once child, one book at a time!
