Help ECFE Stock the PRISM Shelves with Food!

The food shelves at PRISM are running on empty! Never have the shelves been this bare. They have more families coming in for help, and fewer donations coming in.

The food shelf is completely out of basics such as macaroni & cheese, canned meats (tuna, chicken, Spam), all soups except tomato, and beans. The food shelf is almost depleted of pasta, rice, and juice.

ECFE will be collecting items all week at the Community Ed office at the Winnetka Learning Center, 7940 55th Ave. N., New Hope.  For more information visit www.prismmpls.com.

Running for a Cause with the Neill Adventure Club

The Neill Adventure Club staff spent a lot of their summer time with kids.  Neill Adv Club

They also spent a lot of time talking about health and fitness.  Some staff members found more time to work out, others started running, with a 5K in mind to compete in together.  Having quite a few students with special needs, the Dave Ryan 5K for Special Olympics was the perfect venue.

The group was also able to run with one of their students, whose family supported the idea and brought along a cheering section!  On race day, the runners all took off at their own paces, and by the end had found some great exercise, camaraderie with each other, and helped out a good cause. Pictured: Laura Fischer, Kyra Sievert, Traci Marek, Emily Burke, Christian Scott-Hill, Hannah Dallin, Emily Pierce, and student Aston Camara with Miss Minnesota Natalie Davis.

Everyday Hero - Victoria Arabanos Victoria Arabanos

Education Assistant - ISS Supervisor at Plymouth Middle School

How long with school district: 10 years

What I like best about my job: Seeing students get caught up on their work and feeling a sense of accomplishment by the time they leave ISS at the end of the day.

What other employees might not understand about what I do: Some may already know what I do. I feel I present an opportunity for students to build another relationship with a caring adult outside of the classroom and can provide another sounding board that kids sometimes need. Then they can get back to class and get on with the business of learning.
