Everyday Hero - Bob Waligora

Special Education teacher at Plymouth Middle School, 6th grade
What I like best about my job: I love looping with the same kids from 6th through 8th grade. There is tremendous change in their lives during those three years; I help guide them through middle school and have kept in touch with several into high school and college. And I love teaching reading.
What other employees might not understand about what I do: I think most of my colleagues get what I do, which is to care about kids, because they do too. Some may not understand my level of commitment; it stems from having no stable parent growing up and bouncing in and out of seven high schools. I don't want any kid to think they are forgotten and will do almost anything to make them see they are worthwhile. Teachers can be as professional as we want, but we have to show them we care and - yes - parent them to some extent. Our students have to know that they matter to us.

Tim Moreau, Armstrong High School Accounting teacher and certified public accountant (CPA), knows how important his subject matter is. "I think accounting class is essential for any student interested in business, particularly those pursuing a business degree," stated Moreau.
