Former Construction Supervisor and Rev. Carl F. Reynolds will be offering a collection of his Photography and Wood Turning at the art show at the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury.  The art show will open on Saturday March 5 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., and through the morning on Sunday, March 6.

It's free and open to everyone!

The theme is "On Releasing The Colors Hiding in the White, Gray and Black Of Winter."

Greetings!

We are getting ready for a very busy 2011!  During the next few months, Hartford Habitat will dedicate the houses on Pliny, West Clay and Mansfield Streets in Hartford, somewhere in between the Volunteer and Donor Recognition event will take place, and most importantly, South Marshall Street will finally kick off with a groundbreaking event!

Here is hoping that Mother Nature will be kind to us and won't send any more snow our way so these events can take place!  Enjoy our February edition of Habitat Happenings.

The Hartford Habitat Staff

Brooke PendersGetting to know you

Two new faces at Hartford Habitat

Brooke J. Penders joined the Hartford Habitat staff as the Director of Development in February.  What a Valentine's Day treat for us!   Brooke will oversee the Development department, which include fundraising (private and public funding), communications, marketing and special events.

Saniela Medoli, our Development Intern, also joined Hartford Habitat in February and will work closely with staff and volunteers to interview several of our friends to be featured in our marketing materials.  Saniela is a Senior majoring in Communications at Eastern CT State University.

Kuuuudos to KBDC!!

Contributing to the Women Build

Many thanks to Kitchen Bath Design Construction for taking the initiative to put together the KBDC mini-design seminars.  The seminars began last October and participants were asked to make a $10 donation per person/per session to benefit Habitat for Humanity. During the 13 weeks of the series, over $500 was collected.

KBDC's mini-design seminars have started again and will continue through April with a new topic discussed each Saturday.

Meet The Hippolyte Family

Pliny Street, Hartford

Joseph and Cameel are mostly excited about the prospect of owning their own home. The Hippolyte family currently lives in a small apartment in Hartford with their premature daughter named Morasha.

"This Habitat home would be perfect for our family. There would be more space and it would give our daughter the amount of space she will need as she grows up. We are thankful for this opportunity to be a first time homeowner and this is a special gift to our daughter," commented Joseph and Cameel.

Congratulations to the family for completing all the necessary steps and achieving their dream of becoming homeowners!  The Hippolytes will dedicate their Habitat house on Pliny Street on Wednesday, March 16 a 10am.

Burt MitchellNational Ski Patrol has a new board chair - really!

Congratulations are in order to our own Director of Construction, who was appointed the new board chair of the National Ski Patrol. Burt, of the Pahquioque Ski Resort in Connecticut, has been a patroller since 1987, and is serving his third year on the board. He was awarded National Appointment Number 9644 and a Distinguished Service Award, and has taken all Avalanche and MTR courses, as well as Instructor Development. He is an OEC IT, MTR 1 and 2, Avalanche Level 2, and Senior EMM instructor.

A good number of our staff members take their passion of working with others to the next level by serving as volunteers in other organizations.  Burt is one of those people whose leadership go further than just the work site.  Congratulations, indeed!
