July/August 2010 | |
Greetings!
Happy 1st day of September! Of course, this is our July-August edition of Habitat Happenings where we bring you up to date with everything we've been doing at Hartford Habitat in the last few weeks! We have been super-busy building at the worksites, updating our office, selling tickets for the Rock Cats game, planning for the Golf Tournament, preparing for September's Applicant Information Meeting, and planning for the Building on Faith week among many other projects!
Did we say we are super-busy? We hope in the midst of it all, you can find a way to join us. Remember, we can't continue 'building more than a house' without you! So, if you have time to volunteer, participate in one of our events or simply send a donation, this is your official invite to join us. TODAY is the right day to help a family achieve their dream of having a safe, decent place to call home!
From all of us at Hartford Habitat... enjoy a safe Labor Day Weekend!

STICKS FOR BRICKS GOLF NEWS
This one sets a new record!

The 16th Annual "Sticks for Bricks" golf tournament was held on Monday August 30 at Wampanoag Country Club in West Hartford. The committee, which is mostly made up of volunteers, worked tirelessly since early spring to bring together over twenty new sponsors and one hundred and twenty golfers to participate in the event, which is the second largest fundraiser of the year.
This year, the committee set a goal to raise $60,000 after expenses and we are confident that they surpassed that goal! The latest count, before expenses and with a few outstanding pledges, the final numbers were in excess of $83,000!
Congratulations to everyone who worked on getting this event off the ground! - especially the committee! Many thanks to the Hartford Habitat staff, the donors, the volunteers (Bill, Sue, Cathy and Dougie), the staff at Wampanoag Country Club, Zoppa Studio in South Windsor, Discoutn Trophy in East Hartford and everyone who helped organize it behind the scenes! |
SPONSORS
Thanks for your support!
The Greater Hartford Association of Realtors recently awarded Habitat for Humanity with a generous donation of $3,226.00. This is the fourth year GHAR has supported Habitat with donations from their Annual Charity Golf Tournament. |

"PITCHING IN TOGETHER"
A great success!
On Thursday, August 26, Hartford Habitat volunteers, staff and friends got together for a night out at the ballpark as that New Britain Rock Cats joined forces with Stanley Black & Decker to raise funds for our Affiliate.
The game was followed two days later with a build day as employees from Stanley Black & Decker and New Britain Rock Cats staff and team members pitched in again in the construction of 148 Wilcox Street in New Britain.
Thanks to everyone who joined us and participated in the events. Special thanks to McKinley, Amy, Emily, Jen and Ali for coordinating the game and to Hartford Habitat's construction staff for coordinating the build day!
