August 2009 |
|
| Greetings!

Our August e-newsletter is here! We are thrilled to be able to share with you all that we are doing in the Capital Region.
Despite the wet weather, Habitat has had a very active summer. Hundreds of volunteers have come out to our build sites in Hartford and New Britain to swing hammers and raise roofs. But we still need more help!
During the week of September 22-26, we will host our annual Build-A-Thon, Hartford Habitat's biggest fundraiser of 2009. This year, our project consists of seven new houses on Guilford Street in Hartford. Our goal is to have 50 volunteers building with us each day.
Find out how you can register a team or support this year's Build-A-Thon! Contact McKinley Albert at malbert@hartfordhabitat.org. All of the proceeds from this event will help us build simple, decent, affordable housing with families in need.

WAREHOUSE COMPLETION
Construction of the Hartford Habitat Warehouse started in April and was officially "open for business" on Friday, August 21st. The warehouse has become a success and great addition to the Hartford affiliate eliminating the need to rent space to maintain our supplies.
Director of Construction Burt Mitchell led the Weekday Saints as they put in hundreds of volunteer hours to build the warehouse. Sponsors for the warehouse included The Associated Construction Company and the William and Alice Mortensen Foundation.

| RAISING THE ROOF
On August 12th, the roof was raised on 204 Bond Street, New Britain. Construction on the house started in early July and will be completed by March 2010. The home is sponsored by Stanley Works and will be the 169th house dedicated by Hartford Habitat. View More Photos |

A heart-felt THANK YOU to our Bulk Team...
Their motto is stated in four simple words: "Some nail... We mail!" On July 27, we had 9 bulk team volunteers in the office helping with our newsletter mailing. In collaboration with the staff, the bulk mail team processed 11,850 pieces of mail in less than one day!
Cathy Sardinha, Sue Hathaway, Amelia Battalino, Mary Procyk and Norma Griwold, all from Wethersfield, joined Bob and Marion Mayo and Dick and Gracemarie Hayner to get the job done. There are different ways to help Hartford Habitat without going near the construction site! This is one of them. From all of us at Hartford Habitat, thanks "Bulk Team!" Interested in helping? Just let us know. |
