Dawn Birch-James proprietor of Active Interiors was one of the Kingston University students to receive an award for outstanding achievement from the Royal Institute of Charteres Surveyors who accredit surveying courses in a number of universities throughout the UK.
So what has art got to do with surveying you may ask? Dawn was awarded the prize for the best student on the Arts Market Appraisal MA course, which is a professional business practice course covering modules such as Art and Law, Business Planning, Cataloguing and Valuing and art business environments. So it's a big departure from the traditional Art History course. Click here for more details.
Dawn celebrates with Professor Sarah Sayce Head of Kingston University Surveying School
The South East and London award ceremony was held at the Institution of Engineering and Technology at Savoy Place 3rd March 2010. The students and tutors were able to enjoy a hot buffet and wine reception taking in the fabulous views of the Thames and the London Eye. At the ceremony Dawn said:
" It was so daunting starting this course having not studied for so many years, but I just got on with it and worked hard. I still have my main research to complete which will take up the majority of my time. I've learned so much especially about the art market in the capital. It's just so fantastic to receive this award and recognition from the course Director Dr Nicholas Tromans. The added bonus was a £50 voucher for John Lewis!!!!"
