Friends:
There has been a recent development in the ongoing Harris Neck land dispute that Friends need to be aware of.

A resolution has been introduced in the Georgia legislature (HR 610) that supports giving the land that is currently Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge to the previous owners of the land or their descendants.  The resolution, which contains many errors and omissions can be read HERE, but the bottom line reads:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the Harris Neck Land Trust as the legal entity pursuing the return of the 2,687 acres of Harris Neck and express their support of the trust's efforts to return this land to its rightful owners.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Harris Neck Land Trust.

Your Friends group
opposes the destruction of Harris Neck NWR and supports maintaining it in its present form.

To find out more about the issue, check out the Harris Neck  Resource  Page on our website HERE.

If you oppose this resolution (and we hope you do), please contact your Georgia State Representative as soon as possible to let them know.  If you aren't sure who that is, just click HERE, enter your zip code and find out.

A sample letter is available  HERE .  Please feel free to customize the letter with your Representative's name and your contact information and any personal comments about the refuge, or compose your own.  (The letter is in PDF format, the only format Constant Contact allows.  You will need to cut and paste into your e-mail or word processing program.)

If you don't live in Georgia, please direct your comments to Representative Roger Lane whose district includes Harris Neck NWR.

Please CC a copy of your letter to
webmaster@coastalrefuges.org.

Thanks for your support on this critical issue.
