Volunteers and a local Boy Scout troop have completed a bird-feeding station complete with multiple bird feeders and a piped-in water supply with bird baths and misters at the Savannah NWR VC. Even before the station was completed it was being used by hundreds of birds.  Stop by and she how many you can identify.

Call to Action from National Wildlife Refuge Association

This just in...

"The House of Representatives' proposed Continuing Resolution (CR) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 intends to cut the Refuge System's Operations & Maintenance accounts by $12 million, but coupled with inflationary needs, this equates to a $20 million cut! Although refuges saw increases in funding for the past three fiscal years, this proposed budget would derail those gains. Further, it proposes near zeroing out of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), one of the major sources of funding to acquire new lands and waters for national wildlife refuges, as well as federal, local and state public lands..."

This is from Refuge Action Network, our watchdog group in DC.  We all know that we are in tough economic times, and that there is momentum in congress to cut programs.  If you feel that LWCF should be spared the ax, or you want to read the rest of the article,  please go to the NWRA web site to learn how to have your opinion heard in Washington.

Hope you enjoyed the newsletter, send your comments, articles, or ideas for articles to webmaster@coastalrefuges.org.

Sincerely,

Richard Shields
