The big day is almost upon us!  I hope all of you are planning to join us for the celebration.  If you have not already RSVP'd, the deadline is Monday, March 1st (let Amy know at [email protected], or call (843) 784-2468, ext. 111).

Here is a schedule of the day's events:

9:30 AM: Gates open
10:00 AM:  Program begins under the large tent.  Speakers to include Jane Lyder, Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Interior for Fish and Wildlife and Parks, and Peter Stangel, Director of Science & Evaluation for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
11:00 AM:  Program ends at the front door to the VC with the ribbon-cutting.
11:00 AM to 2:00 PM:  Visitor Center Exhibit Hall and The Gator Hole nature store  open.  The VC video "Wetlands for Wildlife" will be shown every 20 minutes in the VC theater.  Guided nature hikes along a short trail behind the VC.
11:00 AM to 1:30 PM:  Hot and cold appetizers and drinks available under the small tent courtesy of our friends at St. Joseph's/Candler Health System.
11:30 to 1:30 PM:  Local author Todd Ballantine will be available to autograph his book "Tideland Treasure".  Bring your copy, or buy a copy at The Gator Hole.
Noon to 1:30 PM:  Guided trolley tours of the Laurel Hill Wildlife Drive available, space permitting, leaving from the VC.
2:00 PM: Festivities end, VC closed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some hints to help make the day a rousing success:

1.  Carpool if possible.  Parking is limited at the VC, more so if it is raining or the ground is wet.  You may end up parking some distance away, but shuttle service from parking areas to the VC will be provided.
2.  If you are not interested in listening to the speakers, you may decide to come later.  The VC will be open from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
3.  The ceremony will go on rain or shine under the tents.  The program is outside, so dress accordingly.
4.  Please, no food or drink inside the visitor center.  There will be adequate covered areas to eat outside.
5.  Remember, due to space and parking limitations this is an invitation-only event!  Fish and Wildlife law enforcement staff will be screening cars at the entrance gate and only allowing those in who are on the guest list.  Please don't invite anyone from outside your immediate family unless they are Friends group members.

If you are have any questions, please call Amy , or call Rick Shields at 912-335-5085.

Thanks, and hope to see you there!
