Greetings!
This month Upstream presents the tough minded, idiosyncratic and moving work of Allen Hart. His darkly funny figurative work is built around dense surface texture, brilliant color and energetic brushwork. His Images....Past and Present provides a wonderful perspective on a life's work that continues to evolve. In our South gallery, David and Joan Rappaport will present a joint show of recent and previously unshown work. Dave's elegant, monochromatic watercolors and lean drawings express his sense of order in the world. Joan's exuberant, brilliant color and abstract drawing evoke the energy of the natural landscape without literal reference.
Please join us at our reception to celebrate the work of all three on Sunday, October 14th from 2-5 pm.

 | | Pretending to be a Matador |
Hart says of his work: "My art is a gothic expression of the world with all its absurdity, beauty, and madness. This body of work represents both the past and the present."

Upstream Gallery was started in 1991 by a group of Westchester artists who were looking for a venue to show their work outside of traditional commercial galleries.
The gallery has two street level exhibition spaces. The current artist members work in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, collage / assemblage, print-making and photography. Styles range from the representational to the abstract. Members have shown in a wide variety of venues throughout the United States and Europe. Upstream encourages artists to submit their work for review. Submissions are reviewed on a monthly basis.
