Greetings!
Upstream is especially pleased to present new solo shows from our only multi-generational members: Jo Zalon Meer and Mary Rankin. Ms. Meer's work is in large part a tribute to her mother. Ms. Rankin's dense show of small, jewel-like works once again demonstrates both the gestural vigor of her language and her explosive use of color. Please join us this Sunday April 29th from 2-5 pm to mark this special occasion! |

Jo Zalon Meer "Losing the Light: Photographs for my Mother"April 26th through May 20th, 2012 "My mother is the painter Mary Rankin. She began losing her eyesight some years ago. Now almost entirely blind, she continues to paint. These photographs are for her. "-----JZM |
Mary Rankin "Pentimento"
April 26th through may 20th, 2012
Pentimenti are visible traces of earlier painting beneath a layer or layers of paint on a canvas. The word is Italian, from the verb pentirsi, to repent. Some of the work in this show dates back to an earlier period, but has not been seen. Most of it is new and grows from or, in a few cases, is literally built over a previous work.

Upstream Gallery was started in 1991 by a group of Westchester artists who were looking for a venue to show their work outside of traditional commercial galleries.
The gallery has two street level exhibition spaces. The current artist members work in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, collage / assemblage, print-making and photography. Styles range from the representational to the abstract. Members have shown in a wide variety of exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe. Upstream encourages artists to submit their work for review. Submissions are reviewed on a monthly basis.
