Greetings Open Door Art Studio Fans!

Last year at this time we were anxiously awaiting our big move to Goodale Boulevard. We were packing, preparing and planning our heads off! As we approach our one year anniversary at our new home it is fun to look back on all that has been accomplished in this past year. Some of the highlights include:

All of this was done while settling into our new location. Just imagine what next year will hold for Open Door and our artists!

FEATURED ARTIST
John Emanuele

Click on John to see his portfolio!

John Emanuele aptly describes his artistic method as "eclectic." The bulk of his extensive body of work consists of illustrations that combine elements from various animals to create whole new species. These imaginative creatures are entirely unique and are then transformed into paintings and sculptures. His images simultaneously reference scientific illustrations of animals and Dr. Seuss' characters. This duality only adds to the intrigue of his immediately captivating imagery. John has lived his whole life in Columbus, Ohio and he is

very close with his family. John is an only child and talks honestly about the perks of his

childhood saying that he got "all the presents". It is hard to believe that John has only been making art since he came to Open Door since in a very short time he has developed a very interesting artistic approach.

John will be featured in the exhibition Figurative Language along with Charles Porter and Wallace Peck. The majority of the pieces in the exhibition are all brand new works that have not been seen by the public before! It opens June 9th. Don't miss out!

OUTSIDE / IN:
An Exploration of Accessible Art Studios in Ohio

Outside/In will feature work from several accessible art studios throughout Ohio. With this exhibit we hope to build partnerships, explore art as a tool for advocacy, and celebrate all the amazing things happening in the world of Outsider Art in Ohio. Ohio is paving the way for creating an arts landscape that does not relegate Outsider Art to the periphery, but instead lets it come right on IN!

Open Door staff have been traveling around to studios over the past two months to visit and select works for this groundbreaking exhibition. We were really impressed by the breadth and quality of work that we discovered and I am sure you will be too.  Mark your calendars for this amazing event! Here are just a few of the works that will be featured in the exhibit that opens August 11th!
