Greetings Open Door Art Studio Fans!
Open Door celebrates a successful five years!!! On April 28th, 2007 Open Door Art Studio's beginning was marked by participating in the first ever Grandview Art Hop. It was a successful, exciting event but things have really changed in a short five years. We quickly grew from 8 studio artists to almost 60. With that expansion we outgrew our first home and have since moved to our new much larger location at 1050 Goodale Blvd. If you haven't seen our new space yet, you're missing out. Our studio is turning into a unique, visionary environment that is covered in affordable, exciting art.
Please join us for our first curated exhibition of 2012 on Saturday April 14th from 5pm to 7pm. It is called This Inspired That and it doesn't seem like we are short on inspiration these days. Read on to learn what we have been up to.

FEATURED ARTIST | | Amanda Stover When it comes to art, Amanda Stover is fearless. Amanda describes her work as very intuitive, just painting how she feels. Her paintings span several styles, sometimes representational, sometimes abstract. In the four years since she began creating art, her favorite medium so far is acrylics, although she has recently been working in watercolors as well. When she's not working in the studio, this multifaceted artist likes to write poetry, play wii, and gather ideas for further art exploration. Amanda was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up with four brothers and one sister, and she says it can get crazy at the holidays. Her most recent artful adventures have been in the realm of three-dimensional art. In the future, Amanda hopes to expand her creative and artistic horizons even further. | Solitude on the Shore, Acrylic on canvas |

Open Door Art Studio and Mother Artists at Work (MAW) present "This Inspired That"

Grandview, OH 43212

As artists, we're always looking for new inspirations, something that moves us, our muse. For this exhibit MAW artists have selected work made by artists from Open Door Art Studio that inspired them, then used that spark to create a companion piece. Both works are displayed side-by-side in this unique exhibition.

OPEN DOOR STUDIO ARTISTS WINS AWARD
| | First Place!
Aside from being this month's featured artist, Amanda Stover also won First Place in the Emerging Artist Category in VSA Ohio's Accessible Expressions 2012 Exhibition for her painting, Penguins on Parade, pictured here. This was the most competitive category as it represented the largest selection of artists. She was present at the award ceremony and accepted her award with pride and a great big smile. We are so proud of Amanda's accomplishments. Congratulations Amanda! |

COTA FEATURES OPEN DOOR ARTWORK
| |
Open Door On the Move
COTA (Central Ohio Transportation Authority) has routinely been very supportive of artists with and without disabilities. They are also the organization behind Project Mainstream, a valuable service that makes the city more accessible to all citizens.
For the next several months a selection of artwork from Open Door will be on display at the Mobility Services Building on Fields Ave. This fun grouping of work is called Open Door on the Move and it features different forms of transportation. From horses to planes to cars, the work certainly does not lack movement!
This exhibit was facilitated by VSA Ohio. Thanks to both COTA and VSA Ohio for sharing Open Door's art with a wider audience.

A BIG BIG BIG THANKS
| |
We Really Needed That!
Open Door loves donations of every shape, size or amount. We are grateful to have such wonderful fans that provide much needed items for our program.
Open Door would like to thank a few local artists for some awesome donations. We want to extend A BIG THANKS to Kate Morgan, Allyson Stevens and Igloo Letter Press. These artists have recently given significantly to Open Door. Read on to find out why they are so fantastic.
Kate Morgan is an awesome local artist and a fan of Open Door. She comes to our openings, brings her friends, buys art, and recently donated some much needed paper storage drawers to us. We are so thrilled with this donation and can't thank Kate enough! Please check out Kate's work at here! You will also be able to see her work at The Columbus Arts Festival this June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd!
Allyson Stevens, another local artists and long time friend of Open Door, recently decided to de-clutter her home and Open Door was happy to receive her "clutter". She donated boxes and boxes of the coolest art supplies. We had the best time going through it all. It was like winning the craft supply lottery. We will use these supplies for a long time to come.
Please check out Allison's work under her pseudonym the Scrabble Chick here! Allyson can also be found at many local art shows so keep a look out.
Igloo Letterpress, an impressive, independent printing company located in Worthington, provided us with stacks upon stacks of high quality poster-sized paper. We foresee many amazing works on paper coming from the incredibly generous donation. The invitations, cards, and all sorts of printed items available at Igloo Letter Press are all so amazing it is hard to leave their Worthington location without something in hand. Their website, here, features many of the wonderful things they produce. Check it out!
Sometimes with donations, when it rains it pours. Here at Open Door we are so grateful for these spring showers! Thanks again!
