Randall Perkins
Randall Perkins is full of contradictions. Simultaneously salty and sweet, he can often be heard telling everyone around him to "Behave!" while acting the part of the class clown. Growing up in a family with sixteen children in the hills of West Virginia no doubt helped to shape his dynamic personality. Randall brings a smile to people's faces both through his character and his art. His illustrations of fun critters come to life when he is given a pad of paper. These drawings have inspired countless paintings, as well as a line of finger puppets, aptly named "Ran-Dollz." Besides creating, Randall's favorite activities include watching "the ball game" and going out to eat.

UTRECHT FUNDRAISER SUPPORTS OPEN DOOR

Big Thanks to the "Build a Snowman" Campaign run by the Short North Utrecht Store!

During the month of December the Utrecht store in the Short North accepted monetary donations on behalf of Open Door as part of their "Build a Snowman" campaign. They raised over $300 towards supplies for the studio. Their store manager Todd McGill-Rusynyk said the following:

"Around 200 customers donated a dollar or more to the cause, and each one filled out a little paper "snowball" which we placed all over our front doors.  It really brought a lot of wonderful holiday cheer to what otherwise is a very busy season in our store!"

Here at Open Door we are truly thankful to the generosity of Utrecht and their customers. If you are in need of art supplies, the Utrecht in the Short North is really a one-stop shop and we highly recommend it.

BEFORE AND AFTER

Before: Donated Shadowbox
What Ever Happened to That Donation?

We get lots of exciting donations here at Open Door.  In this section we feature what happens when one of our creative artists reworks the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Kat Marie Moya, a local "self-taught, research based mixed media artist", donated several commercial shadowboxes to the studio. Randall Perkins was up to the challenge to rework one of them into an original work of art. After removing the mask, he added several elements including a background painting, several figures, and dangling clouds. This fantastic work shows off a very imaginative use of materials and is for sale in our gallery.

Open Door always takes donations.  Big thanks to Kat!
