FEATURED ARTIST | |
Elizabeth Tracewell Elizabeth Tracewell, who generally goes by Beth, illustrates and paints bold geographic shapes in rich, vibrant colors. Her methods are fairly systematic, with Beth applying lines and shapes in a predetermined color palette. She rarely deviates from the original order and continues to cycle through her palette until the surface is full of bright patterns and shapes. She has been an artist as long as she can remember and her signature style has been refined to the point of instant recognition. Beth is a native of Columbus and she has been employed with her local public library for over 20 years! She is very close with her family and loves to spend her free time on family field trips, reading and doing crafts, especially latch hook. Beth's patient personality and kind heart shine through in her various art pieces. Check out the Before and After Donation Feature to see one of Beth's newest works! |
VOLUNTEER AND CONSIGNMENT ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! | |
Sue Sundry aka Simply Riveting "I became acquainted with Open Door several years ago when my son Corey became an Open Door studio artist. He really seemed to enjoy the time he spent there and soon his work was being displayed and sold! I got a glimpse of the collaborative process that makes this possible when I started volunteering last year. Art facilitators support the ideas and abilities of a studio artist by introducing techniques, encouraging exploration of materials, providing critical expertise and expanding knowledge of art history----all of this is evidenced by the remarkable artwork seen on the gallery walls and at venues all over the state. Awesome!
I am also pleased to participate as a new consignment artist at Open Door, making jewelry under the name Simply Riveting. My pieces are made from samples and scraps of various metals, plastics. I use rivets to assemble these elements into lightweight, one-of-a kind pieces of wearable art." |

What Ever Happened to That Donation?
We get lots of exciting donations here at Open Door. In this section we feature what happens when one of our creative participants reworks the ordinary into the extraordinary.
We have a big tub of wine corks that have been donated to Open Door over the years. After slicing and arranging them on a canvas, Beth Tracewell applied paint in her signature, careful strokes. The soft palette of cool greens and blues gives off the air of serenity. This fantastic work shows off a very imaginative use of materials and is for sale in our gallery.
Open Door always takes donations. Big thanks to the suppliers of the corks!
