Doug Gantt

Doug Gantt is a painter with a plan. His prolific body of work centers on several themes that are continually revisited.  He considers his work in the same vein as the "Western style of painting." He finds painting to be comforting and satisfying. Doug enjoys that his creations can be informative and he loves telling people about what inspired him.

Each image is painted with many layers of acrylic paint and Doug often divides the canvas into smaller vignettes that surround the main subject. Born in 1952, Doug has spent the majority of his life in central Ohio. Doug is still very close with his parents and he visits them almost every weekend. Besides historical research and painting, Doug enjoys sewing and competing at the Special Olympics. He gets great fulfillment from exhibiting and selling his pieces around the country and he plans to continue searching for local and national art opportunities.

9/11 REFLECTION AND REMEMBRANCE
COMMUNITY ART COLLABORATION
Patriot's Day Memorial Reception and Final Reveal
Sunday, Sept. 11th, 2:00 - 5:00 PM

Open Door is reflecting on and remembering the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks by inviting everyone to contribute to a very important memorial art installation/event. In addition to featuring 9/11 inspired artwork, Lamentations, created by the nationally recognized, award-winning, digital artist Deborah Krikun
, we will also be transforming our entire gallery into a large-scale, interactive piece of art inspired by the events of September 11th, 2001. There are several ways you, your friends, your school/students, your organization and your family can participate, benefit and contribute to this important memorial event.

As part of collaborative installation, we have decided to represent the 2,753 individuals who died as a result of the attacks by creating a paper origami crane to symbolize each of them. We will need everyone to contribute to make this ambitious goal a reality. We are asking everyone to make at least one crane for this project and pass this invitation to everyone you know. Click here for detailed instructions on how to fold an origami crane. Everyone is welcome to visit Open Door from now until September 11th, any time Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM to make a crane. You can also make one (or many) and mail them to us. We are located at 1050 Goodale Blvd., Grandview, OH 43212.   Your crane can be a simple white piece of paper or as colorful and creative as you would like. Please don't hesitate to participate. Make one now!!!

If you are interested in utilizing this as an educational and creative opportunity for a group of students or individuals from your school or organization, please give us a call at 614-486-4919 to schedule a time. We look forward to hearing from you!

FEATURED CONSIGNMENT ARTISTAN
Black Squirrel Homemade

Jodi Murray is the crafty genius behind the moniker Black Squirrel Homemade. Here at Open Door we are huge fans of her fun creations that include: bottle-cap magnet cards, colorful garlands, felt coffee cozies, and fabric-topeed tea towels to name but a few. What is especially nice about her work is that they make great gifts!

A few words from Jodi:

"Crafting since an early age, I have come to love pattern and color. My inspiration can come from as simple a place as a postage stamp or vintage housewares. My favorite materials to work with are felt, buttons, and printed fabrics. Thank you, Open Door Studio, for supporting me while I'm a stay at home mom!"
