Greetings Open Door Art Studio Fans!
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's ... Open Door! We are on the go this month with lots of exciting events. Read on to learn about a great flight-themed exhibition of Open Door artworks at Wild Goose Creative. Additionally, the gallery at Open Door will feature a commemorative community art project that reflects on the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The installation will grow over the coming month and will culminate in a reception on Patriot's Day in September.
Our featured artist, Clifford, will blow you away with his art! And if you are interested in getting involved at Open Door we have two great ways. Consider volunteering with us. There is an orientation right around the corner on August 23rd. Are you an artist yourself? Apply to be one of our talented Consignment Artistans! The opportunities here are endless. Come fly with us...

FEATURED ARTIST
| | Clifford Kimball
Clifford Kimball's energy level and enthusiasm hardly reveal his age. Between his artistic aspirations and rigorous weight-lifting schedule, he definitely does not fit the stereotype of a man in his sixties. Clifford, a long-time resident of central Ohio, discovered his love of art later in life. He was inspired by his long-time friend, Michael Davis, to begin creating, and together they sought out Open Door Art Studio. After his first art-making experience he was hooked, and he has been drawing and painting ever since. Clifford carefully studies his subjects and then makes delicate line drawings. Bursts of color, either in pencil, marker, or paint, add drama and interest to his illustrations.
Clifford loves the color blue, which seems to reflect his calm and focused demeanor when making art. He is hardly too old to dream and when asked about his life goal he says that he wants to be "An architect like on the Brady Bunch." If his drawings are any indication, his buildings would be quite the sight. Besides architecture, Clifford dreams of seeing his work at an art festival, possibly in downtown Columbus. He looks forward to selling more work and feels a great sense of accomplishment seeing his pieces finished and on display. In addition to his love of art, Clifford enjoys bowling, cycling, and of course, weight-lifting.

9/11 REFLECTION AND REMEMBRANCE COMMUNITY ART COLLABORATION
| | An Event You Should Not Miss Opening Reception: Monday, Aug. 15th, 5:00-7:30 PM Patriot's Day Memorial Reception and Final Reveal:Sunday, Sept. 11th, 2:00-5:00 PM Open Door is reflecting on and remembering the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks by inviting everyone to contribute to a very important memorial art installation/event. In addition to featuring 9/11 inspired artwork, Lamentations, created by the nationally recognized, award-winning, digital artist Deborah Krikun, we will also be transforming our entire gallery into a large-scale, interactive piece of art inspired by the events of September 11th, 2001. There are several ways you, your friends, your school/students, your organization and your family can participate, benefit and contribute to this important memorial event. As part of collaborative installation, we have decided to represent the 2,753 individuals who died as a result of the attacks by creating a paper origami crane to symbolize each of them. We will need everyone to contribute to make this ambitious goal a reality. We are asking everyone to make at least one crane for this project and pass this invitation to everyone you know. Click here for detailed instructions on how to fold an origami crane. Everyone is welcome to visit Open Door from now until September 11th, any time Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM to make a crane. You can also make one (or many) and mail them to us. We are located at 1050 Goodale Blvd., Grandview, OH 43212. Your crane can be a simple white piece of paper or as colorful and creative as you would like. Please don't hesitate to participate. Make one now!!! If you are interested in utilizing this as an educational and creative opportunity for a group of students or individuals from your school or organization, please give us a call at 614-486-4919 to schedule a time. We look forward to hearing from you! |
