TWO NEW STUDIO ARTISTS AT OPEN DOOR!
We are thrilled to have two great artists join our team.  Each artist brings fresh ideas, new mediums, and inspiration to the participants of Open Door.  We wish them both a long and fulfilling experience at Open Door Art Studio.

Allison Buenger

Allison recently graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Ceramics.  Her artistic focus tends to be more sculptural and she often incorporates other mediums in addition to ceramics.  Originally from Hartville in northeastern Ohio, she has been interested in art since middle school and has continually sought out art experiences. In addition to working at Open Door Art Studio, she also volunteers at the Wexner Center for the Arts as a docent and continues to make her own work.  She has now been at ODAS for a little over 6 months and loves coming to work every day.  Her favorite thing about Open Door is "the awesome people".

Sharon Dorsey

Sharon graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Textiles and Clothing.  She has been involved in the local art and craft communities for several years with memberships in such groups as Columbus Crafty Cotillion, Mother Artists at Work, Creative Arts of Women, and Ohio Art League where she serves on the Programming Committee.  She works in many mediums, exhibits her work regularly and has pieces in collections worldwide.  Her favorite thing about Open Door is "the joyful environment".
EXHIBITIONS
Open Door Art Studio has several exhibits during the summer months.  Each month we feature an arts organization that has a similar mission to us.  Just in case you didn't make it over to see the first two shows here is a recap.  Remember you can still make the last two!

RENDVILLE ART WORKS

The Rendville Art Works is housed in the old First Baptist Church (built in 1861) on Main St. in Rendville Ohio. The town of Rendville was at one time a thriving coal mining town and has a rich history of its own. Each day, Monday through Friday 9:30-1:30, between  6-8 artists with mental and/or physical disabilities arrive to work on their individual projects. Each artist has their own focus, whether painting, drawing, sculpting, or a multitude of other media. The Rendville Art Works prides itself on assisting artists in finding their voice and subject matter.  They were featured during the June Hop.

GOODWILL ART STUDIO

Located in Columbus, Goodwill's art studio provides a creative environment for artists with disabilities.  They offer "the opportunity for creative self-expression, recognition, improved self-esteem, increased life satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment though encouragement and collaboration with professional artists."  The show at Open Door included a variety of lovely art. Most of the exhibition consisted of paintings with several fun mixed media works.

BLUE SHOE ARTS

The name of this wonderful organization stems from their original location in an old shoe factory and from participating artist Joe Greene's affinity for adorning his cartoon characters with a signature pair of royal blue shoes. The exhibit at Open Door features a great selection of Greene's cartoon-style paintings.  When seen all together it is fun to pick out recurring imagery and fun visual jokes Greene shares with viewers.  Along with Joe's cartoons, several other artists' paintings round out this fun and colorful exhibition.  The exhibition will be up until Thursday, September 23rd. Don't miss it!

PASSION WORKS

Come out for the Grandview Hop on Saturday, September 25th From 6-9 to celebrate the opening of an exhibition of art from Passion Works.  Passion Works is located in Athens, Ohio and was founded by the wonderful artist Patty Mitchell.  Passion Works is very well known for their Passion Flowers, wonderful metal blooms often adorned with bright illustrations from the artists who participate in the program.  Along with the Flowers and other products, the studio also produces one of a kind artworks that dazzles.  If you are in the area on the 25th stop in to enjoy a bit of wine and snacks, as well as some amazing art.
Where are we and where will we be???

Open Door is always happy and thankful to partner with businesses around town.  Currently you can find our work at Aladdin's Eatery at 1423B Grandview Ave. in Grandview and Aladdin's Eatery at 2931 North High St. in Clintonville. Stop in for a delicious bite to eat as well as some quality art viewing!
