President's Message

Stella DuPont

Stella DuPont

Greetings!

Sacramento Coaches is making a few changes and they are listed below:

1) We changed our venue. We will be meeting at Mimi's Café located at 3511 North Freeway Blvd, Sacramento (Natomas area) 95834. Our first lunch meeting will be Tuesday, January 10th @ 11:30 am. We will also have our evening meetings at this same location. You can check our SCA calendar and we will send out reminders too.

2) You will now have to register for each meeting. If you go to our website you can register there for our meetings. This will give us an idea of how many people will be attending and will help us tremendously!

3) Members are invited to attend our retreat. This will be held on Saturday, February 4th. We will be at one of our board member's home in Grass Valley. We encourage all members that can make this to attend. Your participation will be about two hours on Saturday morning. We do hope to see you there! Details will come via Constant Contact.

4) Board Service Change. This current board will serve until August 2012 at which time a new board will be announced and they will begin their year in September 2012. You will see notifications coming out in the Spring. If you would like to serve on the board, you need to let us know! We will have a nominating committee as we usually do and they will recruit for SCA. However if you know you would like to run, that would be a good thing for us to know in advance!

We are pleased that we have four new coaches that joined recently! I received another call from a gal that is also interested so SCA is honored to have members continue to join our organization.

Happy New Year everyone! We hope that you will have prosperous new year in 2012, filled with new business, new education that we continue to bring in through speakers and network with the old and new like minded professional coaches such as yourself!

Go SCA!

Thirteen years ago, I was a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by day and the mother of a seven-year-old son newly diagnosed with ADHD by night. Despite my experience and education in the medical field, I felt helpless as to how to help him manage and overcome his challenges. Shortly thereafter, I discovered ADHD Coaching and saw what a difference it made in his life. I knew I wanted to use this approach to help other parents, students and adults overcome their ADHD challenges, feel more confident in their abilities, and experience success. Today, I am happy to say that both my son and I have been able to pursue our dreams.  I have been an ADHD Coach for nine years and my son is serving proudly in our United States Navy.

I specialize in working with clients diagnosed with ADD/ADHD who want to finally understand how their brain works and use effective strategies to minimize their challenges based on their unique brain style. This includes both children and parents who are seeking information and strategies about how to better understand and support their child; students, struggling with the increasing challenges of organization, schoolwork and social lives; young adults who are taking their first steps towards independence and/or heading off to college; and adults of all ages who finally want to understand their ADHD/ADD and finally live the life they want!

In 2002, I graduated from the Coaches Training Institute, an International Coach Federation accredited training program that produces many of the world's finest coaches. As a leader in the field of ADHD coaching, I am currently affiliated with the ADHD Coaches Organization (ACO) and served as Vice President for that organization from 2005-2007. I remain very active in the professional coaching and ADHD communities and speak nationally and internationally on this subject.

I was raised and educated in the Pacific Northwest and currently live in sunny Northern California with my husband of 25 years, four children and our menagerie of pets!

ICF Update

ICF membership categories in effect April 1, 2012

At this point, you have heard about the new membership eligibility requirement (MER)...but what does it mean for your membership with the ICF?

What it says: Beginning April 1, 2013 all ICF members will be required to have completed at least 60 hours of coach specific training to be a member (or maintain membership) with the ICF. To allow adequate time for all current ICF members who have not completed the required training, ICF has developed a Provisional Member category. Current members will have one year to obtain 60 hours of coach specific training prior to the policy taking full effect on April 1, 2013.

What it means: Officially beginning April 1, 2013, all ICF members will be required to have completed at least 60 hours of coach specific training to be a member of the ICF.

ICF members who hold a valid ICF Credential will automatically fulfill this requirement and will retain Credentialed Coach Member status. You will renew your membership as you normally would. Note: to maintain an active ICF Credential, be sure to renew it every three years.
Members who have obtained 60 or more hours of coach specific training* will fulfill this requirement and retain ICF Coach Member status. You will renew your membership as you normally would.
ICF members who have not yet completed 60 hours of coach specific training* will be considered an ICF Provisional Member, upon renewal, for a maximum of one year (until April 1, 2013) or until the membership eligibility requirements are fulfilled (if completed before April 1, 2013).

Understand each of these membership categories by clicking on the appropriate link below:

ICF Credentialed Member;
ICF Coach Member; and
ICF Provisional Member.
*Definition of Training that is accepted as coach specific training:
(These are aligned with the requirements for the ACC Portfolio Application credential path.)

Training from an Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) or a program that has received the ICF Approved Coach Specific Training Hours (ACSTH) designation.
Training from a Continuing Coach Education (CCE) Provider, subject to these limitations:
   - All hours approved in Core Competencies will be accepted.
   - A maximum of 12 hours outside of the Core Competencies will be accepted.
Training that is specifically marketed as teaching coaching skills, that teaches coaching skills or teaches how to apply technical skills in a coach-like manner and teaches coaching skills in accordance with the ICF Core Competencies.
Requirement for 60 hours:
At least 48 of the hours must be:

Direct interaction with a trainer (voice-to-voice or in-person training; not cyber courses, mail-in courses, or self-study).
From a program other than ICF conference, SIG, Virtual Education, or chapter events.
Teaching the ICF Core Competencies (all Core Competencies must be covered).
The remaining hours may be self-study, from an ICF event, teaching coaching-related topics, or a combination. However, all hours must be part of a program with the purpose of training coaches.
